I have a 1951 Imperial power brake booster which has been in/op since I bought the car. I just disassembled the thing and found a small hole at the edge of the rubber diaphragm.

This isn't the type of car where parts just grow on trees. The rest of diaphragm is in fine shape. Has anyone ever "patched" one of these?

All good ideas, but I'm looking to button this thing back up this weekend, so I figured I'd try something like a bike tube patch. If it doesn't work/last, no harm, I'll pull it back off. It's no where near as hard to remove on a '51 Imp compared to a "modern" car from the 60's. I have it torn down to fix the master cylinder... More important than the booster!

might try a music store.
accordian bellows repair, or a camera store for the older camera repair.

a tube patch might not hold, or not for long. that looks like a part that bends a lot.

If you try a patch, make sure it is on the pressure (atmosphere) side and not the vacuum side. Good luck and please post how it turns out.

Just thought I'd mention that I did patch the hole, (Guitar Center does not carry accordian parts). I used a tire patch on the pressure side and sealed around both with clear RTV. It seemed fairly strong. However, during reassembly, I noticed another problem with an unobtainium part called a "main cylinder" (not the master). The power part of these brakes now goes on the back burner, as conversion to non-power is as easy as one line that bypasses the power unit. That allows me to drive the car with manual brakes as I've done since I bought it.

So it will be a while until I can report success or failure.

I tried to repair the diaphragm in a Bendix Hydrovac on an International 1600 Loadstar I had with a tire patch. Didn't work. The tire patch separated from the diaphragm. But did it fail because of incompatibility or did I do something wrong? Don't know. Bought a new unit.
