Any opinions out there in which one is better for a small block 727? One trans builder this morning told me the Transgo was not good, (something about how it makes the tire or trans momentarily bind or lock up on 1-2 shift?).
This is for a street run 340.
Anyway, any experience out there?

My trans guy used the B&M kit when he built my trans some years back. I supplied the kit. When I picked it up he commented that he had never used the B&M kit in the past but he liked it and planned to use them going forward. I'm very happy with the results.

Transgo is a good kit,the builder claiming it locks up on shifts is one i wouldnt let anywhere near my car. for what its worth i never let anyone else build my transmissions, they are pretty darn simple things.

It is a pretty well known builder and he advertises in most of the mopar mags, that is why I took him seriously.

The TransGo TF-2 kit has provisions that minimize the 1-2 shift overlap as does the B&M Transpack. The cheaper "plate kits" actually exacerbate bindup on manual upshifts.

If your builder is observing the 1-2 bindup on jackstands it isn't the same when under power.

thanks for jumping in John, that was exactly what he mentioned about when up on a lift you can see the bind up. I take it from your response that this isn't really a problem?

BTW, he isn't my builder, I was just calling this company for the parts to complete the rebuild and he mentioned this "bind up" issue on the phone

At the risk of becoming a bore, I'll repeat what I've said several times...jackstands is the absolute worst place to judge the performance of a transmission.

It's impossible to remove all of the overlap on a manual 1-2 upshift but a good kit like the TF-2 goes a long way towards it.
