The hot rod let all the smoke out of the differential.

I was planning on stuffing this in the Imperial but that's a no go now.

Since it's out I might as well put a new part in it. What's the best way to go with this thing? There are a TON of lockers and limited slip units out there and I haven't really looked into them until now. I do need to keep price in mind on this.

Which unit would you guys recommend?

Things to consider:

5,100 lbs of Imperial.
NOT a drag car.
Sock 440 for now but it might inherit a bit more power.
Extremely long wheelbase will be even more difficult to maneuver with a locker.

Find a power lock, or buy a new Torsen Tru-Trac. The Torsen is about $550.a power lock is less, but you gotta find it, then plan on $80 for new clutches.

Rick (E-Booger) always touts the eaton true-trac diff. He says they work/act just like a factory mopar sure grip but are way better than the cluth or cone type diffs.

The TrueTrac is the unit I've got my eye on.

Well, if you can find a Torsen, that'd be interesting, as Torsen doesn't list one for the 8 3/4 in its literature.

But the Tru-Trac is being produced for the 8 3/4.

The Eaton Tru-trac IS a Torsen differential. Yes, for about $550 you get one.

I've got a Dana 60 from Cass with the tru trac. Sold the 8 3/4 before I owned "2 of them" LOVE IT! For the cost of getting a good 8 3/4 gear pot built ..... I just went with the Dana and was done with it

R-O-N-G!!!!!
The Eaton Tru-trac and the Torsen ARE DIFFERENT AND COME FROM DIFFERENT COMPANIES.
Look it up before you make ignorant statements.

They have always been competitors, since the early '80s. They have never been produced by the same company.

Now do they function the same, yes. And do the gears in the T2 Torsen look like a Tru-trac? Yes. But they have their own patent.
And the gears in the original Torsen which they now call the T1, don't look anything like the Tru-Trac.

Jeez....calm down. How about "Torsen Style Differential: as in helical gear. Does that make you happy? Life's too short to get upset.
"http://www.drivetrainshop.com/eaton_truetrac_s/139.htm" The word "Torsen" is being used to describe True-Tracs, everyone knew what was meant.
