I am going to get a quote to have my 89 Daytona painted for my my daughter -- it has the standard oxidized hood, roof etc. What is the going labor rate for striping and sanding the paint and doing minor body prep? How much time do you think I should allocate for total body prep (not including the time to paint the car)?
I just got an estimate of $35/hour for the prep. Is this in the park - way over - or a fair rate?

35 is dirt cheap and I doubt you will have a happy ending.
What about Maco or a place like that.
Do you see the "paint roller" your car thread??

I restore cars (do not do new car collision work)I've been restoring for 16 + years. My current going rate is 65/hr for most jobs. Electrical and custom work ranges between 75-90/hr.
35/hr is quite low. I'd be very cautious about choosing a restoration or paint shop just on price point alone.
Too bad you're not closer, I'd have you bring it over and I'd give you the moparts member discount.
In a conversation with a Wyoming State Patrolman... "A 318 ??!!! But I clocked you at 142 mph!!!"

Exactly!!!! You need to see their work before you decide on what to spend, and find out if paint material is included.

Maaco did this for me & it got nothing but constant oohs and ahhs whenever I drove it. Not sure how long it would have lasted (I sold it). I remember the "roller" paint thread from way back & I always wanted to do that.
for a driver i would do that in a heart beat!
