Grandson was stuck and rocking truck back and forth, and lost reverse. Forward gears ok but nothing in reverse. Fluid is a little dirty, but doesn't smell burn't. Truck only has about 60,000 on the clock. Any ideas???

Possible broken band.

Fairly common to break the low/reverse band and then you have no reverse. I have replaced a couple of them, unfortunately you have to take the transmission out and almost completely apart to replace it. Sorry, it could be worse.

Try the truck in manual low gear and see if it has engine braking. If it does not then the low/reverse band is not applying. Ron

The ear came off the band. Pretty common.

Bring it and the one from your Challenger by the house and I'll do a package deal.

Mark, I would love to do that, but daughter already farmed it out to a local shop, and my guess is, they are going to get ripped. Nobody wanted to listen to Grandpa. On the other hand, you serious about doing the 727?

That's a shame. A $15 band and some fluid and we could've had him back on the road.

Absolutely, bring it by. Gotta get it done for Mo-Kan, right?!

I moved some cars around today, and got the lift open, might get enthused and drop the tranny this week. Thanks

2004 Dakota tranny does not use a reverse band. It has clutches and they are probably torched.

An 04 Dak with a 3.7 will have a 42RLE trans. They DO NOT have any bands to break.

From what I remember even if it is a 3.7 I was pretty sure it had the option of a 42RE also behind it. But I dont even remeber what year the 3.7 came out as I would have to look it up. Ron

It's a 42RLE, no bands.

Isn't a 42RLE basically a "truck" 604??? In that case, there's a clutch gone.

I agree if it is a 42RLE no bands but what I was saying was I thought I remember the 42RE also being avalible behind some 3.7's. But it may have only been in the car model as I dont remember for sure what models it was. Unless the 2004 Dakota only had the 42RLE behind the 3.7 then my memory is off. Ron

Basically your right just 5 clutches as I would say its like a rear wheel drive version of the 604. Ron
