farmboy OP enthusiast F Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 391 kansas	Grandson was stuck and rocking truck back and forth, and lost reverse. Forward gears ok but nothing in reverse. Fluid is a little dirty, but doesn't smell burn't. Truck only has about 60,000 on the clock. Any ideas???

I have replaced a couple of them, unfortunately you have to take the transmission out and almost completely apart to replace it. I agree if it is a 42RLE no bands but what I was saying was I thought I remember the 42RE also being avalible behind some 3.7's. But it may have only been in the car model as I dont remember for sure what models it was. Unless the 2004 Dakota only had the 42RLE behind the 3.7 then my memory is off. Ron
