Regarding my car, Its a .040 over 400 / 451 combo, and I run an 830-cfm Race series double pumper. But I also run a 9-1/2 converter and 3.91 gears. It may be a little faster with a bigger carb, but it has real crisp throttle response, and runs great on the street with the 830.
Is that the 830 annual discharge chokeless carb? What is the rest of your build?

No, its a downleg carb (#4788). As I said above, its a .040 over 400, with a forged 3.75 RB crank cut down to fit the B block. Bottom is studded, running Scat H-beam rods and Iconn forged pistons, 10.5:1. As cast Stealth heads with an RPM intake and the 830 DP. Cam is an Engle solid-lifter custom grind that Moparts member Jeff Patterson helped spec. It runs 1-7/8" headers and is sparked by an MSD Digital 6-plus box firing a Mallory Mag-Pickup distributor. Based on weight & MPH, calculators say I'm getting about 450 hp to the rear wheels, so I figure it makes somewhere north of 500 at the crank.
The rest of it is a 727 with a T/A manual valve body and a Dynamic 9-1/2" converter, custom built for my car by the guys at Lupo. 3.91's out back and 27" 255/60-15's and Calvert split mono's and Cal-Trac bars.
Its a great street car that's a lot of fun to drive, and the best part is that I've done all the work on it myself with hand tools in my garage.

This is now a full on hi-jack, and I appologize. Cam is a square pattern ground on a 108* cl, 283* running duration, 252* @ .050, .573 lift. Installed straight up, runs at about .018 lash.

Depends on how much you're willing to tune vs. wanting to just bolt-on and go (more or less).
For what you've described, I'd probably... - buy a Proform replacement main body - buy a secondary metering block conversion kit - buy a quick-change top for the vacuum secondary pod & spring kit - open up the primary block PVCR to .055", if it's smaller currently - stick a 6.5" power valve in it - get a range of jets from #70 through #84 and set it up to start with using #72 primary & #80 secondary - buy some extra squirters to have at least .028", .031", .033" & .035" to try out (but it'll probably be too fat w/ the .035") - pick up a pack of different accelerator pump cams to try w/ the different nozzles
But, then again, I like to tune things... If you don't, I still suggest contact AED in Richmond about what they suggest to upgrade it and, maybe, sending them the carb for them to do the work.

Two other things came to mind, especially because you'd mentioned the idle characteristics a couple of times. 1. Where's your ignition curve set up, both initial timing & total? 2. Your primary metering block IFR (Idle Feed Restriction) may need to be enlarged SLIGHTLY to provide more fuel on the idle circuit w/ the bigger cam. How many turns out are your idle mixture screws now? Both of the above can have a pretty major impact on how it idles.

Yeah I see he does mention idle a few times... if thats all he is concerned about then stay with the carb you have and play with the idle as Brad said... if the mixture screws are more than 2 turns out then he might have to mess with the IFR holes... but as Brad also said the timing is number one to look at.. it might need some curve work done on it

Just installed a Quick Fuel Q 850 on my 360 and it runs great, the throttle response is night and day over the holley

Your initial could be a bit low which will effect the way the carb acts.. might want to try it up at about 19* but then your gonna have to cut down the total which is re-curve work... try moving the timing up while turning the idle down(as you increase the timing it will increase the RPM).. see where it idles the best
