While planning out the new bullet, I came to the realization that piecing together a stroker wedge with Victor heads came close to the price of some of the Indy Crate Hemis. To top it off, I noticed in their catalog that they'll deduct $1,000 if you want to assemble the engine yourself. I'm looking at the 572 Super Street Hemi, upgrade to the 1050 Holley and Indy Roller Rockers. I'm considering the $500 cylinder head upgrade as well. I'm new to the Hemi World and to Indy. Is this a good deal, any real world experience, does the board have a sponsor that can beat/match this deal? http://indyheads.com/images/price.2013.5.pdf Thanks!

Do not go thru Indy for a purchase like that. I can tell you from experience...Go thru BG as Mr P explained. Give him your goals and go from there.
I have an Indy Headed Hemi, its only 484 cubes, and the heads need a little to keep up with a set of ported StageV heads, but its all $$$...Mine flow 400cfm ported by me, and a good set of V's flow 420cfm...I am not too upset about that. Another thing to think about is are you ever going to go with T&D/Barton rockers...Some Indy Hemi heads they won't fit like mine, so you have to go with Indy rockers or Stage V....
Other things to consider...Indy Hemi 426-1 heads make the engine 1.5" wider than a standard Hemi..I cannot speak for the Hipo heads, never seen a set. The chamber on the Indy head is smaller, so you need to watch your compression if your going pump gas. Also, the 426-1 heads are heavy. They have cast in rocker stands...
Other things to consider, lighter rotating assemblies that use 2.2 rod journals, and lighter weight .990 pins, and long rods, typically the 7.1" are lighter as well with the 2.2 journals...Standard stroker cranks will add more reciprocating weight, so go lighter if you can. A lot more fun.
I have considered selling mine as I want to move up to a 604 and see what that is like, but for now, I will just keep beating the heck out of this one..

interesting to note that Indy don't use their own block on their NA builds. why is that you think?
Because nobody will pony up the cash to pay for the block, that is why. They get World blocks for pennies on the dollar.

And that is the salient point - Indy provide a much needed source of diverse performance hardware....however their QA and customer service is " belly up"
I would guess people like BGR understand this and are prepared to "massage" the issues to provide a quality product.

Thanks for the replies! I plan to pull the trigger when some stock options mature early next year. I've read the mixed reviews on Indy before, but was hoping that things had changed. Looks like I have a lot of research to do in the next few months.
I'm more in the camp of doing things myself, but the aftermarket support doesn't appear to be at the same level for the Hemi as what is currently available for the wedge (not at all what I expected). Maybe I'm just not hitting the right places. If I were to piece together my own build; are there any choices other than Mopar and Indy? As far as a short block, Muscle Motors is priced cheaper than what I think I can build on my own. Any experience with these guys?
Just offering my opinion...... I know of several friends local to me( near Muscle Motors) who have had shoddy work done and or had work supposedly done that wasn't done. If it was one person one time, I probably wouldn't say anything. But that isn't the case.
On the other hand, I personally( and know of others) have had top notch work dome by Best Machine, and I would be extremely comfortable giving them a ringing endorsement. Both the above are Michigan based mainly Mopar shops.

That 572 hemi is listed at $16,995.00. Then you have headers and other things to consider. If you are already set up for a wedge, take your money to one of the builders mentioned in these posts and you will have a sturdy wedge with a mega block that will outlive and outperform any hemi of similar size and configuration.
