I usually use brad penn 10w30 and a wix filter and change it a 3k miles. this summer we plan a cross county trip to Portland or in my 73 dart, stock 318. its 7k miles round trip. will it make 7k with this oil and filter.

i doubt one oil change at 7,000 will hurt it. with today's oil thats not an uncommon change interval. Just keep an eye on the level each morning, or at fuel stops.

'7k shouldn't hurt it but its more than I'd like to go in a carbed vehicle with conventional oil. Personally, I'd change it once during the trip. If you don't want to carry oil and can't find Brad Penn, diesel engine oil would work well... enough zinc and readily available in 15W40.

Buy your own oil and filter and take it to anyone that changes oil and just have them use your stuff and pay the labor, probably $10-15.

Take 5qts of Bradd Penn & a wix filter & a shallow pan & a crescent wrench & an oil filter wrench & several clean rags & a can of spray brake kleen & change it in Portland. You could put the used oil in 2 empty gallon antifreeze jugs & O'reillys & others will take the used oil. Need a funnel also. You go in & dump it in their 55 gal barrell

7k at highway speed should be no problem for oil.

This is 1 of the best things I've done for making oil changes easier

cold starts, short trips and engine warm ups are what contaminates oil, not sustained highway driving. I would not bother to change the oil until I got home from the trip.

After driving up the curb, does he need tools for an alignment?

Take a couple of quarts for top off and make the whole trip without a change.
