IIRC S440 was gang stamped by the factory on some warranty replacement blocks (usually short blocks); replacements became so frequent that it necessitated dealers using 'regular' over the counter blocks authorized by the factory, the dealer was supposed to stamp the block, few did. By the time 1970 rolled around, I believe warranties were only 12 & 12. There wasn't any odo requirements and odo's were 'spun' and an over the counter block was purchased and installed.
It seems to me that in the distant past we had a block that had 2 0 2 stamped on the pad. What it might reference can only be surmised IMO, as the possibilities are numerous.
Additionally, industrial 440's did not always have a stamping on the pad and obviously did not have a VIN.
