Hey guys,

Working on my '72 Dart with a 318. Had the car running with the original starter. Shut the car off to see if it'll start again. Click. Nothing. The click was coming from the starter, so I figured it was the starter giving me problems. I changed the starter in favor for a mini starter and went to start the car. Same click. Jumped the lugs on the starter, still nothing. However when I jumped the lugs AND the relay, the car turned over. What could be going on with this? Bad ground? Bad battery cable? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
Paul

Check the big wire for 12 volts at the starter and make sure it's getting a good connection at both ends

Make sure that you have a good ground system. Clean battery terminals and cable clamps.

Your ground path is Ok cuz all your manipulatin has been on the power side. The symptoms ain't adding up cuz jumping the 2 lugs on the starter is the same as jumping the 2 lugs on the starter relay (assuming the small "solenoid" wire from relay to starter has continuity. I'd clean the ring terminals on the 2 big wires on the large "batt" terminal & that threaded stud on the starter relay and check/clean the smaller solenoid wire/terminal at the relay. Starter is good/the batt is charged, just a loose/poor connection in that circuit
