I have a very nice 68 69 70 style Charger back glass. The problem is it's covered with cheap auto store window tint. I don't want to try and scrape it off with a razor blade. This would be time consuming plus I could scratch the glass! Does any one out there have good results on removing this stuff?
Thanks!

ammonia, and a razor blade. the safety kind, and work slowly. that's how the tint shops remove it, before re-tinting. spray it with a spray bottle, let is sit for a few minutes, and try peeling an edge. the razor is just used to "encourage" the tint to lift. cover anything you don't want wet, with old towels, and do small sections at a time.

Actually, I had the FACTORY tint removed on my daughters rear window (with delicate defroster) and its pretty cool
Park car in the sun (warmer the better), spray ammonia based window cleaner on the glass, cover with plastic, pre-cut to the shape of the window, use black plastic if the sun is being used to warm. This ensures that the tint film remains wet.Let sit for about 20 minutes. The tint film will wipe right off.

Youtube it.....lot's of info there using a wall paper steamer. I have done it with a razor on my 66 Dart and paid a tint shop 100 bucks to do my son's stratus. All I am gonna say is that it was the best 100 I ever spent. lol. I have no idea how they did it tho.

I have personally used one of those clothing steamers. Works great!

Thanks for the replies to my question!
I had a weeks vacation this week and that tinted Charger back glass was on the radar. This afternoon I started on this with the best of what I had here. I used a safety razor blade and some amonia based cleaner. It didn't start out well and the attached picture was after an hour of work!

I took a break and took my wife out for supper. When we returned I started out with a brand new razor blade! Things went better and as I developed some technique the blade started to dull. After another 45 minutes all the tint was off! So an hour an 45 minutes to do this glass. On the positive side it's done and I found a Chrysler logo and date code on it! I had thought it was an aftermarket piece. Another positive was that the tint protected the glass and it's inpretty good shape!
Thanks!

I know not everyone has one, but this is another job that a heated pressure washer would have done the job in less than 5 minutes.

Everyone should have one, I use mine almost everyday for many things.

If the glass is off the vehicle just put it in a big plastic bag and toss in a rag soaked in ammonia.
Not an ammonia based cleaner, ammonia.
Close the bag and let it sit for maybe a couple hours. Open the bag and the film should pretty much just lift right off.
I've done it that way several times and it always worked quite well. The fumes do the hard work.
If the glass is still installed I've taped plastic to the edges of the area to sort of seal it. Put the ammonia soaked rag inside.
