Am I safe in assuming that the transmission bolt pattern on a V10 truck transmission is different than an 833? Is there a bell housing to mount an 833 on a V10 truck motor?

Thanks!!

Why would you bother with an old 4spy when a 5-6 spd is available and probably more feasible. I don't believe there is a bell that works with the 833

I already have an 833.....plus I don't think there's a bell housing that will work with the 5 or 6 speed on a truck motor other than the NV4500.

The v10 uses the "SAE" bellhousing pattern, the same as a Cummins. You might be able to find an adapter that will work with a small block bellhousing.

you can use a getrag bellhousing with a 3/4 spacer between bell and tranny---made mine out of aluminum plate and a friend made the index hole on his mill....

Huh, I never knew that they use SAE stuff. I always had it in my mind the V-10 used a standard small block bellhousing pattern.

Maybe, because you still need a bellhousing (actually its called a Flywheel housing in the diesel end of the business)that matches the engine side and an then an adapter or trans with integrated bellhousing that shares the same SAE # on the other side.

To the OP, anything is possible if you want it to be. This is an adapter I made to put a 833 trans behind a big block Chevy. Of course what I did is nothing new, this used to be a real common swap many years ago for drag racing and circle track. I just went the homade route as finding what was a common adapter back then is very uncommon now.

Yup, I had one of those GM 833 trans. They were only offered in the O/D version (thus my adapter to allow a std 4-speed 833 behind the GM motor). I bought it way cheap and made a good buck on it, but it was insturmental in making that adapter I did being able to have that and a Mopar 833 side by side. I talked to Jamie Passon about them, they have metric bearings in them, and the main case looks just like a 833 with standard muncie bolt pattern and a standard looking Muncie tailshaft on it. Interesting foot note in the 833 history for sure. I have only seen the one I had, and only read about a handful of more. They are rare nowadays.

Sorry to side track the topic though.

I believ the 6BT (meaning also the V10) uses an SAE #3 clutch housing.

Phoenix in Juniata Nebraska makes an adapter for Cummins to LA bellhousing. I am not sure how the clutch works.

the V10/cummins bellhousing is strictly a dodge thing----for an sae to fit on a 5.9 cummins you have to buy a special flywheel plate---they can be found on school buses with allisons---the 4bt units thAT ran on a ford or chevy tranny used a special flywheel plate that would bolt to the ford or gm tranny---they are not liked very much because the flywheel is small and probably the clutch will be overpowered by a moded engine---if someone is making a small block dodge pattern i would expect clutch problems----a 727 or 518 can be built to take it-----cant see why to do it unless you have a transmission tunnel problem ....
