I am running a Carter mech. strip pump on my pump gas small block, 3/8 line and autozone fuel filter.I drove 40 miles round trip to the last race and ran my new best of 6.29,1.33 60ft.@ 108 in the 1/8 so far. I hope to have the fuel system upgraded by spring so I can put my 1050 carb. on it.
1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

I just use the Holley black pump and the stock tank. I put a 3/8 sending unit in my stock tank and run 3/8 line in the stock location. Pump and filter mounts back by the tank. And I use a pump block off plate where the mech pump was. Works fine for 10.70's and still pulling good thru the traps. Ron

what is the application? Carter and Holley make good street pumps, I ran an Autozone replacement on my old 440-6 (11:1 528 solid cam, 1.5 rollers, headers, 3800 stall, 3.91's). Worked just fine. It all depends on how much gas you need.

I've ran a Carter strip pump into the 10's with a tunnel ram in the past. Right now I'm using a Clay Smith pump and love it. It needs a regulator, it needs to be clearanced at the block but it pumps a lot of gas.

yeah like I said and? I've seen guys w/ 12.20 "strip cars" and 10 second "street" cars. In any even the carter and holley pumps will get a BB car well into the 11's w/o an issue, even w/ tiny 5/16 line.

carter strip pump with regulator, 10.60. still shows 6psi at the stripe. it gets driven a couple thousand miles a year, is about 15 years old, and has been stone wall reliable (as opposed to numerous failed attempts at electric pumps).
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Has anybody ever run a small parallel electric pump (like the Mr. Gasket 12S ~ 35gph) as a booster? They also help a ton with hot starts to refill the bowls on a mechanical. It was a fairly common hop-up for running 50-100 shots in the early nitrous days when things weren't all high-dollar sophisticated like today. I used to have one of those old "Chinka-Chinka" Dupree's that I used to cut on with my N20 "armed" switch You can also use it as a 'jockey' (for you firemen and fire protection guys out there) pump with a return loop. I used to put it on a 3 position switch (off/jog( i.e. momentary)/run). BTW, they also make for a nice inexpensive "limp-in" system if you ever lose your high dollar pump on the street or at the track @cudaman1969....that's one of the (sometimes forgotten) practical advantages of a rotary vane pump (as opposed to the more modern georotor)....you can series it upstream of your mechanical and still pull the gas through it without the electric pump running.

Carter Pump -6 line 11.20s 360 with an 850 carb
Application is a warmed up 408 or 360 (haven't 100% decided yet) in a STREET/strip 69 Dart. Goal: No quicker than 11.50's in 100% street trim as it doesn't have (nor will get) a roll bar.
I have a new Holley black pump and the AN hose and fittings in stock, but not sure I want to mess with all of that. AND it would add to the "sleeper-ness" if it was a mech pump and OEM 3/8 lines.

you could probably get away with either the carter or holley mech pump and your stock 5/16 line, however it won't hurt to upgrade to 3/8, just remember to get a 3/8 pick-up as well.

Where would I get one of these? I run the Clay Smith pump now, like to try something different in the future.

Yep. IIRC, Dwayne Porter's 440 B-body was in the mid-to-high 10s w/ a mechanical pump and still had the OEM 5/16" line.
My only concern w/ a mechanical pump was when I was still running a Six Pack on The MoPig and had some vapor-lock problems crop up on occasion. The fuel line insulation I added to deal with the issue seemed to work, but certainly took away from the sleeper image.

It will work as long as you can boost reference it. I ran a hi-po carter on my old S/C'd 440. All I did was tap a small 1/4 line into the top of the pump (it's already there maybe for venting)and ran a line from the head unit to the pump.
