Question: Is it common for a St. Louis built car (1970 Charger R/T) to not have a Y-code on the fender tag ?

Mine does not....

All previous Mopars I've owned have some Y code (Y05, etc... ) listed at the top for delivery and handling, etc... but my car does not have a Y Code on the fender tag.

Is this common ?

Fairly common to see Y14 and Y16 on 70 tags...lots of tags with no Y codes.Your 70 was on egag in 2012....I have it on my database as FK5 not EK2.

I just looked at 50 or so photos of SL tags that I have for saved for 70 Chargers & other B bodies. Many of the tags have no "Y" code. The "Y" codes I see that is somewhat common is Y16 (sales bank), also a few Y07 (build to spec Canada) and one Y09 (build to spec export). Interesting that of all the tag photos I have non of them have Y05 (build to spec US). Hope this helps you out a bit.

Hi
Nope, Except for the upper door frame, it's EK2 Mango all over.
Here's a pic of it in my shop still wearing it's original paint.

Documented previous owner Ted Stephens (Stephens Performance Mopar)...

What kind of database are your putting together, Chargers ?

Thanks

Corrected my entry...thanks.I've been doing some yearly spreadsheets...collecting info on everything mopar. It's a good hobby...costs only time...info is free. It's always neat when you get a consecutive VIN or order #.I've only got 10K or so organized ...model/eng/plant/yr/vin/order # etc etc.Probably have another 10k on paper from pre computer days and have at least 15K jpegs of fender tags ,broadcasts, pics etc. Need to figure out how to link the pics to the database.Heres a tip...when you right clic and save an image change the img # to the Vin # right away before you get too many on your hard drive.Multiple images of the same vehicle just add bcs,ft,inv etc to the Vin # .I've been spending an hour a nite lately trying to renumber mine.....thousands to go lol.

STL was inconsistent with Y codes. You will find it occasionally but not having a Y code on a STL car is more common than having one.
