Good question & I ain't sure on that. Me too with alot of $$$ invested I'd want the best. I'd maybe ask John Cope at CRT & see what he recommends. He has a good rep on here

Hey Jeff,
I run Type F in the Charger. No manual valve body though. From what I read, even the stuff you'd get from Wal Mart works fine.

Asked this question last year on the race board. Practically unanimous to run Type F from WallyWorld.

I see from just a quick check of CRT's site that CRT RECOMMENDS ATF+3 with their 727/904 manual valve equipped trannys or PENNSOIL DEXTRON II or III , but again, being it's a new tranny, and that usually means warranty coverage, I'd contact John/CRT to see their actual intended fluid for your application...

So is the conclusion here that a manual valve body 727 would use a different fluid than auto valve body (atf+3 in the manual versus type F in the auto)?

Thanks.

Facts are stubborn things.

atf+3 WAS a good choice about a decade ago when it was still being made

You are correct, a quick search shows Chrysler stopped making it in 2005....ATF+4 is the recommended replacement for vehicles requiring ATF+3

But again this thread should not have existed, the OP should have contacted Cope directly for the required ATF required for his application, so as not to void any warranty

ATF+3 is no longer made. ATF+4 is the recommended solution, unless your rebuilder provides a great warranty and wants something else in there.

I'm not a tranny pro, but as I understand it, common wisdom is that ATF+4 and most other newer formulations are formulated to offer less friction, and more slip because most people don't want to feel the shift in their new car AT's. They do, however resist heat a little better than the older fluids, and one would think they may last longer without breaking down. Type F is an older formulation that has been around a long time, and generally offers more friction; i.e.: less slip at the clutches during a shift. Many racers and performance minded guys like the Type F because of this.

We're talking about very small amounts of difference, however. Most would never know the difference.

FWIW: I run Type F in my manual valve-body 727, and it works just fine.
