IIRC the Military blazers also came with a 3.08 gear ratio. Not the best for offroading.
Yup.
And 10 bolts, too.

10 bolts are superior to any 8-3/4
Not unless the 10 bolt is also stronger than a 9"------SAE tested the 8.75 to 500 hp and the 9 " only took 450 hp------yes the aftermarket chased the 9 (like the sbc) and you can buy tons of stuff for them but the bone stock 8.75 is stronger due to pinion placement---the 9 inch pinion placed at bottom of case is at the weakest spot---dana 60 near the middle is at the strongest position.....

Huh, never had an issue in the one in my Jeep at the left.

Running 35x14.00 Boggers, Q78x15 Swampers, or 38.5x11.00x15 Boggers.
Jeep weighed 4K, as shown. Guys with the 10 bolts swapped under their much lighter CJs were lunching axles with great regularity.

Not all 10 bolts are the same and I doubt any are superior to a 8.75.

i would love to drop a cummins 5.9 into a cucv set up--the ones i have seen around here have 1.25 ton rated axles--i have diesel emissions here so i think the swap would be doable---it would be fun to do the same to the 90 ramcharger but will not be allowed here by emissions rules...

The truck CUCV had a D60/14 bolt combo.
The Blazer had 3.08 10 bolts.

Why would that not be allowed? The CTD was available in the dodge truck body since 1989, so as long as you meet the specs for a 90 CTD, I would think you would be fine. There no emissions on a 89-93 Cummins truck anyway....

Given the choice b/t those 2, go w/ the ramcharger! Used to have a 6.2 diesel in a 1/2 ton 2wd chevy truck. Decent fuel mileage, but that's the only good thing about it. NO power.
