Get some zoomies and exhaust it out the hood.

I would get different headers, what are they built for?

I made them and the turnout was a after thaught.I was thinking of making the zoomies from where the collector is on insted of the collector.

Your evac system will never work with what looks like the almost a 70 degree bend into your collector from the primary tubes. Not only is the angle/tip cut of the tube as well as placement depth critical in creating that venturi effect, the level of vacuum production is going to be dependent on a clean high velocity stream of exhaust gas flowing by it. That flow needs to be free of disturbing changes in flow direction to create the needed low pressure in the tube.

Mike you need to cut those primary tubes about 5" shorter then re-weld your collector on. Then you can weld the large elbow to it like these.

I wondered why the headers looked so strange in your launch photo. You made some nice headers for that car, now you can re-do the collectors and you'll be good to go.

Ya when I made the headers the angle of thew tubes effected the collector placement but I did what I could for making my first set.

This is how I did my headers. First time I ever built any also. I had no choice, they do not make any for my D-50.I wanted my collector to point back so I could run mufflers.

I ordered 2 Summit brand under chasis SBC weld up kits.I still have a lot of bends left in the box,1 kit was not enough bends.

My headers took about 14 J bends to make.

Looks like your going to need another 8 more and then you will be good to go, with a little finish work by attaching new collectors. I think you did good with your header build untill that last part.

I'll bet it didn't work...LOL!

My question is: WHY?? A b-body with a wedge?? Almost as common as a BB in a brand X car...thus many headers are in stock everywhere. Just curious...

Well done! Not to hijack, but I'd like to see more pics of that truck...(in a new thread) especially the rear and engine compartment. I'm digging it!

Those look like my d50 headers! I started racing at 15 in a 87 d50 with a 340 had a buddy build me a set with a pipe bender and some 1 3/4 pipe they aren't very pretty by they worked.

I have the same situation, not enough room for collectors. You wouldn't have known unless you tried!

Collector design is SUPER important for power production. You NEED to do that stuff on an engine dyno. It is no joke. You would be amazed at what you would see by messing with that stuff on a dyno. J.Rob
