saw a fuel under my Duster. it was coming from the bypass return line. I removed the line and sealed it then added some pressure and here's what I discovered. never had a leak like it before this one.

I have no idea when it was installed but don't remember replacing it. The #10 and others I remember ?

Yep... thats all it is... just a fancy outer with
hose inside... time will kill the hose... also if its
been sitting without fuel(once fuel has been in it)
the air seems to help dry it out(actually its the
fuel but the air shows it up better)... a few years
ago I had the same thing on my hose(same stuff)...
looked great but fuel would leak through.. this was
on the supply side... it was about 12 years old..
I dont know why but it seems they like to leak NEAR
the fittings... I havent seen them leak in the middle
of a line... like the hose gets twisted during assembly

for as long as I can remember a new hose gets my homemade pressure checker test. about 50lb for fuel lines. 150 for oil system

At work we use to test new samples from vendors but
we used a oil in a pressure pump to burst it so it
wouldnt explode... it would just piss out oil and drop
in pressure

FWIW with pump gas that is not very unusual. Some of the additives in pump gas will tear up the inner rubber layer on steel braided hose over time. Some areas seem to do it quicker than others. I have replaced numerous lines on street cars over the years,

I had to replace a section of my return line last year for the same reason. Backed the car out of the garage to go to the grocery store and saw a trail of gas. Crawled underneath to see it dripping. It was leaking through the metal braid, but not near a fitting. It was in the middle of a 4' section.

This is why hard line should be used as much as possible and only use small sections of flex where you need to. Less is better when it comes to braided hose. I would never use it to go front to back.
Braided hose is only good for a few years until it needs to be replaced and that was before ethanol.
I honestly replaced all my braided hose on my 250mph dragsters every 3rd year. Run them 2 years and replace them. My fuel system sit's on a too expensive motor to take chances. And after 2 seasons there is evidence of corrosion starting on some of the fittings. If one little speck of the corroded aluminum get's stuck in one of my fuel nozzles, then it would burn a piston and torch the head, sleeve and block costing a few thousand dollars to repair.
Even my oil lines to the remote filter got replaced and all were pressure tested to 300psi and tagged.
A TAD can kill you very easy and fast.
Braided line is no guarantee of anything, they suck for the most part, but you have to use them in some places.

FWIW we have replaced WAY more return lines that supply lines on most cars. My theory is the vapors are causing the issue as many of the return lines when sitting may not be completely full of liquid fuel. Just a theory but we have replaced return lines way more frequently than supply ones.

Thats true... vapor most of the time is more problematic
than full liquid
