I'm having my 727 freshened-up..after 11 yrs. of abuse in my street/strip '69' GTX. I run a Turbo-Action Cheetah valve body, and a bolt-in sprag. It was recommended that I install a Heavy Duty Strut..HD Retainer, and a 4.2 lever,to replace the 5.0 that's in it now. Any thoughts on this modification...good or bad? I trust the builder wholeheartedly...just want some opinions about the lever...and why,EITHER WAY! Thanks in advance! Randy B.

The 4.2 is favored over the 5.0 and HD components are always a wise investment.

When I had Pro-trans freshen up my trans 12 years ago, it had the 5.0 lever and the screen filter and when I got it back in had the 4.2 lever and a stock filter.............

As I remember the old school thinking was that the extra leverage of the 5.0 was better.

But as it turned out the extra leverage wasnt needed and the Slower reaction of the 5.0 was a hinderence. The 4.2 was a better comprimise of levarage and reaction. So the 4.2 is favored now.

Randy, good to see you posting again,

You better allow extra time as you will have to pull the tranny and converter and valvebody to change that arm.

Is your trans in or out of the car?
The pin/shaft it rides on comes out from inside the bellhousing after unscrewing a plug. Even out of the car, I wish I had another hand to do it. Gotta manipulate things carefully to get it out & in.

You can change the lever in the car. Use a 12' 1/4 inch drive extension and a 1/4" flex socket and unscrew the plug. Some of the plugs have like a locktight sealant on them and you have to heat it up with a torch to get it out, and that should be done with the trans out of the car. I have broken the flex socket when the plug was tight and wasn't heated.

Hi,Mike! Yes..picking up a 4.2 lever..HD strut..and billet aluminum spring retainer from Mancini's today. Also, the MRE Race rebuild kit..as suggested by Gerry Tomala. I just have to decide what rear band to purchase. What do you suggest? Thanks! Randy
