Those are cool and I have used similar products however I don't have enough surrounding material to drill a hole for a 7/16-14 tap (used for 5/16 coarse or fine insert). If this was a head or something like that I'd be all over it. Can you buy directly from these folks in low quantity?

Thank you for the tip!

Your not going to believe this one but Harbor Freight sells those plastic boxes with cotter pins, small nuts and bolt, and they sell a kit that has brass ones of all different sizes. My local ace hardware also sells them by the piece. I'll see if I can find them on their site.

I have both tops for the later MW Indy intake, the 4150 top only comes in sideways mount carbs from Indy

Hey cab can you trace that top plate on a piece of cardboard and send it down this way? I'd like to see it I can weld and re-drill/tap my intake for the newer style top.

I am worried that the spacers will hurt the manners of my 511 on the street.

Current 4150 style. I think the 22 bolt was a good 7 or 8 yuears ago.

Thank you for the info, good to know. I wonder if the new top can be used on my old intake if the holes were welded up?

...Indy low deck tunnel ram for my 511" 400 based stroker... I am going to run two annular 1050 CFM QuickFuel 4150 carbs

If it were me...Those QF 1050 cfm 4150's will flow more than the older style 1050 Holleys. I would just put a pair of annular 750's IF YOU MUST run 4150's. Or just a set of the older 4500's. There is a guy on here occasionally (MONTESSA) that runs 440-1's on a 572" he was making pretty near 950 HP with 2 750 4150's.

I am going to follow your advice there and test with some 650's and 750's on the dyno. If I didn't already have one 1050 that is running on the car and one that fell in my lap I'd skip the idea altogether. I'd hate to have parts laying around and not try them. My QF 1050-AN runs so nice on the street I'd hate to let it go.

If I could find a set of affordable aluminum 4500 series carbs I'd give it a shot but so far nothing has surfaced. Long ago I made a vow to never own a pot metal carb again for a wide array of reasons.

Jeremiah, my dual 4150 top would only bolt on one way It looked like it would fit both ways when I was mocking it up, as in the picture, but one screw would not go in when I went to do the final assembly , I reverse it and they all went in

Them 1050's will not be too much on that 511,make sure which ever carbs. you run block the power valves Tunnels Rams do not work with them. You may have to play with the jetting a little more than the 750's but in the end it will be worth it,the dyno will show it as well.I have been running Tunnel-Rams since the 80's,done it at 1st for the looks but would not have kept running them if they were not better.
I still think the 4150-4500 adapter plates will give you an easy 25-30 HP(the ones like in Mr_Cab photo)or more than just the standard top.

I am going to get on the horn and get two HVH adapters coming on Monday. I am also going to look into getting a top plate made and if it can be done for a reasonable cost I'll do a comparo on that as well.

Thank you for the encouragement. I sure hope the 1050's work because they are not cheap and nobody seems to want them used.

I had no idea this was what you've been up to! Very cool indeed.
Have you the tuning specs of your 'street' 1050?
I'd be keen to see how it's tuned.

I'd like to say 'keep out of trouble', but it would seem you're doing the opposite!
Cheers!

Long time no see partner. My 1050 is a little off the norm due to being up here at 4200-ish feet above sea level. I'll shoot you a PM tomorrow.

The Indy TRs we have all have 12 bolts on the top plate and some of them were bought in 2001.

I don't know if this will be of any help on making a top plate, but on the BBC Dart Tunnel-Ram the top plate is flat with 2 carb openings and drilled & tap for the carb studs or bolts & most run them that way mounted flat to the top with no spacer. This should be fairly simple to make.

I took your advice and have two 4500 manifold to 4150 carb HVH adapters coming.

What are you guys using to seal the top to the base on this intake? Hylomar? Should I get a sheet from Superformance and make a gasket?

Thanks for answering all of my dumb questions. Tunnel rams are new to me as you can see.

It was 106 where we were working today and having cool hotrod parts on the bench sure makes the effort worth it! me -->
We are going to back this engine up with a Lenco ST1200 so it should be a fun car to drive. Hard work and even harder play!

Indy said to use silicone when I last talk to them about two years ago about buying some top gaskets for both of my tunnelr rams I used some clear adhesive silicone on my low deck, I won't know it that works or not for quite a while do to it being plumbed for rons Terminators set for E85

Interesting, and not expensive.
Do you know if the external threads on those are normal coarse machine threads (like 7/16-14)? I worry since the package says wood, the external threads might be something more coarse than standard.
