I recently purchased an Indy low deck tunnel ram for my 511" 400 based stroker. It came with a 2x4500 top plate and I need a 2x4150 top plate. After looking online and talking to Cab I see the newer (I think) tunnel rams use less bolts that the older (I think) one I have that has 22 (!) attaching screws. Does Indy still sell the older style top plate? Does anyone know when they switched designs? Is one better than the other? I am going to run two annular 1050 CFM QuickFuel 4150 carbs and am hoping I don't have to make a top plate.

Don't know if this will help you but my Indy tunnel Ram for a 440 has 12 bolts holding the top plate on. If you need some pictures let me know.

Current 4150 style. I think the 22 bolt was a good 7 or 8 yuears ago.

Put you some 4150-4500 adapter plates on it,use your drummel to make sure you match the bottom of the spacer to the top of the intake(gasket match them to each other). They tell me adding a spacer to the Indy intake is worth a few extra horse-power as well.I was going to test a few different thickness spacers a while back, but due to the cost of having to buy 2 of each and I was told running mech.FI I would not see the benfits as with carbs.I never got around to it.

PS You will get 2 for the price of 1 an adapter to mate your carb. to the intake and a spacer which will increase your perfomance!

Double PS,most of the single Indy intakes use a super sucker,so there is nothing wrong or bad about running an adapter plate.

Awesome, I will hook up some adapters. I was looking on Summit's site and they range from this:

http://www.wilsonmanifolds.com/products/spacers/carburetor-adapters/4500-to-4150-adapters.html

to this:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-8716/overview/

Thank you all for the input. Always something around here! I am hoping to pick up 30 hp on my CNC MW Victor pump gas 511 with a 750ish roller cam.

Shoot...here is another option:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5-INCH-CARB-AD...2f3&vxp=mtr

The HVH is out due to it being a 4150 to 4500 carb application that is directions.

Here is a picture of my manifold. It is kind of a pile of crap and will need some finishing to get the top to bolt on, carb studs not tapped, port entry looks to be chiseled by a cave man, etc. No big deal it will be a fun project.

Ok....I think this is my solution unless I can find a 4150 top:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HVH-carb-adapter...702&vxp=mtr

Most of the spacers listed 4500 manifold to 4150 carb have the holes tapped on the 4500 side and pass through holes on the 4150 side which is the opposite of what I need.

Any idea if the Wilson spacers are this way was well? If not I can call on Monday and ask. edit: Wilson does make a 4150 carb to 4500 manifold adapter...

I have two 4150 to 4500 adapters, one was used on a 4150 intake to mount a 4500 carb., all the holes on one of the adpaters are removed(drill out) so we used bolts to mount the spacer adapter and the carbs The other one still has the threads on the 4500 side I would try these type adpaters and remove the 4 hole divider from your top, the Indy 4500 tops have a open top

I had two short adapter plates made locally to mount my Terminator 4150 type bolt pattern throttle body onto my early low deck top that is for the 4150 carbs. mounted sideways No reason you couldn't do the same for your deal, if your short on hood space BTW, I may try adding a two inch tall spacer onto this intake set up with the fuel injection to see if it helps the motor out or not

Thanks Cab! I will get busy this week and mill open the top plate. I reamed out most of the bolt holes and spot faced them to the tpo plate would actually bolt on. I don't think there a chance I can run a hood scoop with this...maybe one of the older Mopar prostock scoops would work.

Back to work on the Coronet, it's convertible weather!

I looked for a used one for about six months. They are not all that common it seems. For not much more than a used one like mine you can call Bob George Racing and get a new one. I think the price is generally $150 more for brand new and you won't have to deal with the issues I am. By the time it is all said and done I'll have at least $150 in spacers to run 4150 carbs. I don't think my little 511 warrants 4500 series carbs, especially because it will get some street duty.

Mr_Cab,showed (picture)the type adapter spacers needed for intake.

Also was RIGHT about opening the 4 holes up in intake to one.

Mr_Cab is the man!

That is the reason I had to take mine off. With the two 1150 dominators they were to close to the top of the hood scoop. My Daytona ran like a son of a gun with it on till it was just shy of the 1/8 mile mark. Not good when you are racing 1/4 mile. Been sitting on the shelf for several years now and the 572 will be using B1 heads and alcohol next time out.

No problem aluminum is easy tapped.Any Advance,Lowes has 1/4x20 taps(get a sales rep to make that is correct size or what size is needed)get a starter tap most times they come with correct size drill bit that needs to be drilled before tapping hole.Drill hole straight make sure tap is straight use a wrench to turn it and you have thread on needed side.If need be the side thats threaded can be drill out if its 1/4" use a 9'16" or 5/16" drill bit.

Thank you. The machining end of things is not problem and I see the HVH is tapped on both sides. I will have to install helicoils in the top plate because the threads are gone or where never there. That's hotrodding for you.

You may want to rethink the helicoils and use Keenserts. usually a much safer setup.
