I just installed my MP aluminum 452 heads and figured out I needed longer push rods for my stock rockers. In my quest to get a set I noticed that there are varying sizes from 8.5 to 8.6 that all state they are the stock size. Every manufacturer has a different size they claim is stock size. My actual stockers are 8.555 which Lunati shows as stock. Even the MP pushrods show 8.57. What gives ? Can no one measure a stock push rod to come up with the size and the say that the longer/shorter ones are +.02 or -.005 ? Just curious.

My guess is that there is a lot forgiveness on preload on a stock hydraulic set up, something like .030. I had to get .020 longer rods when I put the Stealths on.

Between decking the block, cutting the heads, and the reduced base circle of some aftermarket cams, there is no profit in making "non standard" lengths. There's no way they could stock all the various versions.(IMHO) Too many variables to cover all applications. Is why I'm deciding if I need adjustable setup.I ended up calling these guys I found on the internet fo a 360-same problem you are having. They made me a set of thick wall 5/16ths ball and socket for under 100 dollars shipped. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

That and pre 68 used different push rods and lifters.Thats why most cams are listed for 68 up.Lifters have to be changed.Rocky

I did do the measuring and the correct length are on the way. I just thought it was strange that there are at least 5 lengths and the all show that they are stock length. The forgiveness in preload seems to make the most sense.

There are also differences in measuring length. One of the cam company catalogs had a writeup and there are something like four or five ways. Best deal, if you can, is to get a checking length adjustable pushrod, set it exactly how you want it, and send it in with your request.
