""Air fuel ratio at peak TQ was 13.3 and at peak HP it was 14.1""

These leaner A/F numbers are interesting, thank you for posting.

Nice results Arnie.

I noticed the electric water pump drive. Were you able to make any pulls with the pump driven by the crank?

How much (or little) porting was done to the intake and heads?
I was dead on with the torque curve, just thought/expected it would pull a bit (~20)more HP up top....especially with a six pack.

I've seen 520 lb-ft/460+ hp results on stockish 440 builds using an OOTB Crower 271HDP cam, ported intake and just a 2.14 valve with some short side tweaks. I did use '915 (closed chamber 67 castings) heads though. That was on a stock bottom end with just shortened pressed pins (saves about 50 grams a slug) and 'flipped' 2355 TRW slugs.

Obviously not enough porting...

since the Mr 6 pack cam has basically stock lift (corrected for the stock ratio not really giving 1.5)I did not open up the ports, just some "pocket porting" bowl work and valve job with back cut valves to try and improve low and mid lift flow. I know that the 9.5 compression also cost some HP, but i really wanted a street driver.

Intake flow @28

.100 = 75.3
.200 = 150.6
.300 = 200.6
.400 = 229.6
.500 = 238.3
.600 = 240.4

I think some 1.6 rockers would really wake it up, but then again it should spin the tires OK now with the Super Track pack 4.10 gears and the 4 speed.

Cheers,

Arnie

Looks too lean up high. How come it wasn't corrected??? power may not have fallen off as much up there.

We started at 32 degrees then 34 degrees, then 37 and the plugs looked happy there...

Perhaps on the dyno where we can control the engine temp it may have pulled harder at 38-39, but in the real world in my Super Bee cruising around on a hot summer day, 37 will be less prone to detonation on 91 octane pump gas.

If i decide to take it to the track some day for a test and tune, i will bring some race gas to mix in, and try more timing. Bob K also mentioned he runs up to 40 degrees, but he runs race gas.

Arnie did you guys try making the outboard carbs richer on the dyno? My best set of carbs had .097 orifices on the passenger sides and .094 on the driver side with Holley 64 jets inthe center carb. and a 4.5 power valve with a .060 PVRC in the meterring block The BSFC stayed under .42 with that jetting, the AFR would run between 13.3 and 13.6 at WOT. I treid jetting the outboards up by .004 on both isdes and the car slowed down .2 ET and 2 MPH in the 1/4

I'm impressed, I know the Bob K cammed engines run hard, but I figured they had spent so much time tuning them that they were making alot of under the curve power. 54 horsepower is quite a gain. And those flow numbers really aren't that much more than stock 906s, sometimes someone's "pocket ported heads" flow 270 cfm which I figured was the case here.

You said its a cast iron intake, I assume a cast iron six pack setup?

We tried more jet and it lost power on the low and mid range... This jetting made the most average HP and TQ from 3,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm which is where this street car will be driven. It is a balance thing.

Also since this was dynoed with manifolds but no mufflers, the full exhaust will change the jetting requiremnts a bit and hotter temps from the cast manifold under the hood will also richen up the mixture.

Cab, this had 66 jets in the center and the idle a/F mixture was awesome, and 82 passenger side, 84 drivers side Holley jets in the end carbs.

6.5 power valve was fine as the Mr six pack cam had 19 in vaccum at idle...

This motor was happy with slightly leaner A/F in the higher RPM range!

GTX matt, Yes it is a cast iron Six pack manifold.

Keep in mind everyones flow bench reads different which is why they don't race flow benches...

Prior to the latest clean up in the bowls and new valve job my heads only flowed:

Intake:
.100 = 62.5
.200 = 121.8
.300 = 171.4
.400 = 204.8
.500 = 213.2
.600 = 221.6

So they gained close to 30 cfm at .200 and .300 lift, which is what I was after.

I am going to have to take this to the track later this summer and see what it ET's...

Cheers,

Arnie

rapid 340, no i did not set up the pulleys and belts, but the MP alum water pump (in the cast iron housing) will probably steal 6-8 hp ??

Nice numbers Arnie

So does that Mr. SixPack cam have a mellow, stockish sleeper type idle?
