Hey,

I had Galen decode the TAG and BC Sheet for my car.

What does J55 : "Undercoating with hood insulation pad" mean?
My car is a N96 car, so how would it have the pad?

Also -
does the under coating mean the entire bottom of the car was treated or just inside the wheel wells (F & R) ?

Thanks in advance

Bil

If J55 was ordered on a "fresh air hood" car, it did not receive the hood pad and the OPTION's price was still the same ($16.60 on a '70 Challenger).

The underside of the car was undercoated before K-frame/engine & rear axle/springs were attached to the body.

ALL "street cars" had the 4 wheel wells undercoated - STANDARD.

dan --

i'm assuming the under coating was applied after body paint. Is this correct?

also - where all the hard lines (gas/brake/emergency cables) in place prior to under coating?

thanks in advance ,,

Bill

After paint, YES
Gas & brake lines - YES.

Parking brake: ? I'd guess the pedal & cable were there - coming out of the inner fender going to the crossmember, but the bottom-side cables wouldn't be installed yet - as the rear axle isn't there.

Yes & no.

Full undercoat as an option, yes, after body paint.

Undercoating was also referred to as sound deadner when used;

In the rear quarters (trunk area) pre-paint, same for inside the door skins.

Wheel well sound deadner was applied after paint.

Which was done before the door was a door & before the 1/4 was part of the unibody.

thank you (both) for the clarification.

I am going to have an opportunity to get the car up on a rotisserie.
Car was in an accident and will be having significant work done to it.
Idiot kid ran a stop sign and it creamed the entire front clip .. BADLY ..

I figure it might be a good time to do the underside correctly.
Right now it is dip tank gray with blue overspray on it...

yep ........

Got a real mess on my hands..
Thankfully Grundy (Phil Indem Comp) is my insurer and I have a stated value policy with a high ass value.

So I am gonna be good - and not get it totaled.
But it is going to come damn close to the 80% mark..

Just got the initial estimate from the adjuster - it went back to them for further refinement. not even close. missing around 18K
and all this and not even at the body/resto shop yet ....
can't wait to see what they find and have to get a supplement for ....

Hit me with the numbers in an email, 1970 N96 Challeners are pretty scarce. I can add yours to the count & give you a letter with a total of known cars if it will help at all?
