......just stupid people. That's me.
I developed a bang in my front end on my 71 challenger when I turn the wheel. I found this rubber bushing missing on the passenger side front of what I believe is the steering linkage?? Can someone give me the proper name for this so I can get what I need to fix it? and is this something a novice can do or do I need to bring it to my mechanic? I would like to replace all of them as they all look pretty worn.
Thanks again for any help, moparts always carries me when I need it.

The bottom bar with the 2 holes on each end is the Centerlink.
Looks like its not tight or possably the Ideler Arm is wore out.

Just because the dust boot is missing, this won't make the noise you discribed. I would have someone move the steering while you crawl under, and get a look at the parts in question. Look for exsessive movement, loose fasteners, or something worn out.
I would also avoid driving the car until the cause is determined. Having the idler arm fail completely would ruin your day, and perhaps the car.
Changing the idler arm is not that big a deal. The proper idler arm puller is available for loan at any Autozone, and the rest of the tools you probably already have. If the idler (and/or any other steering/suspension parts: tie rod ends, control arm bushings, etc.) is shot, the car will probably need an alignment after the new parts are installed.
