hey --
Some background ... 440+6 Challenger, stock restored 38 amp alternator. New NOS regulator All new wiring throughout car. No ground issues - I ran one from the bellhousing to the firewall.
I ran a 10 gauge wire from the back of alternator to starter relay - to help take some current away from the bulkhead and ammeter gauge
When running car during the day - rpm above 1000 the neddle is dead center. When running after cranking - needle swings to far right and gradually to center. If rpm drops below 1000, then needle swings to left - soon as rpm goes up, it moves to right then to center.
Question: Is it normal for the gauge needle to sit just a hair to the left of center at nightime (lights on etc)?
I checked the voltage at the alternator durring the day - 14.20 it was 14.1 at the battery. Turned on the lights and it dropped to 13.7 -> 13.8. At night even with the slight needle offset to left - head lights and dash light don't dim.
Expertise appreciated ....
Thanks in advance..
Bill
Got me a NEW Project 1970 GTX 440+6, 4 spd, 4.10 Dana and N96 FE5 (top/bottom) and black bucket interior. Original transmission and Dana - Engine is a service replacement block.
Body has all stamped #s + VIN/TRIM tag and door sticker. Been hunting like all hell to find the Build Sheet.
garage find, only had 41,850 miles on ODO.

My 69 Charger does the same thing with factory stock wiring. Pretty much the same numbers too.
