(on 85 Diplomat) I've already purchased new plugs... I am curious on what wires you guys reccomend, I was thinking about getting the MP wires. Also I'd like to do a cap and rotor, is the cap and rotor different from the stock cap and rotor if my car has the MP ignition? Also a good coil? I want to get nice stuff, because eventually I am going to put a 4bbl on it. I'd like some input thanks guys.

Firecore wires have recieved multiple rave reviews on here but are pricey. Me I'd get a set of solid core wires that are reasonable. Same cap/rotor but get the Echlin MO-3000 rotor from NAPA which has a .060" longer blade. I'd suggest an E coil but I'm not sure which one. I run an older black FBO coil with the .25 MP race ballast on a DD & it starts/runs flawless. Mine is not the new FBO full 12V coil & not sure if his new one is an E coil or not. I'd suggest keeping your dist & tuning the systems on it in order & the NAPA rotor & a tan cap with brass inserts & a full 12V E coil & a parts house generic Mopar 4 pin ECU (they're cheap/perform good). The power is going to be in the coil/ballast (or coil/no ballast) & extensively reworking the dist systems: initial/total/springs/vac adv IN ORDER staying just under the pinging point on the systems after the initial is set with the "vacuum gauge method"

I already have the MP ignition kit, the orange box ecu. So you're telling me that depending on the wires and coil ratings I will have to adjust my timing?

Not sure if different coils will have a significant effect on the ideal timing needed tho coil selection is very important but I would do final timing after you're parts selections are complete but YES to answer your Q the timing should be fine tuned as there is ALOT of gain to be had there & no way is it close out of the box.

I tested a few different coils with different ignition boxes in the past and I am currently testing more boxes, coils, and resistors currently on my dyno.
The best coil I had found for low rpm engines using any of the MP ignition boxes( chrome or orange) was the Accel canister coil for use with points/ electronic conversion.
The best high rpm choice was the MSD blaster 2/3.
Rick at Firecore sent me his new canister coil he will be selling for using with hid distributors. I have been testing it for the last couple of days.
When I first saw the specs on it,I thought it would act pretty similar to the MSD Blaster series, but it falls right in between it and the Accel. Better low end torque than the MSD,better top end horsepower than the Accel .
Not sure what the cost on them will be.
As far as coil and ballast resistors go,don't worry much about it. On a 370-380 horsepower360 the absolute worst combination of high resistance coil combined with the highest resistance ballast resistor I had on hand ( 1.6 ohm) only lost 5 horsepower but it it also smoothed out the overall power curve over the same coil without the resistor .
Avoid cheap Accel plug wires, use Rapid Roberts advice on the cap and rotor.

Great info thanks guys. I wish I had the money (and ambition, I hate snow) to kick the 2bbl to the curb. All I would need is a 4bbl if I used the D4B Edelbrock intake I have, but I'm not sure if I can keep the A/C. I used the performer intake on my 5th ave, and I'm pretty sure I kept the compressor. You guys have any input on that? lol, thanks again. I will be ordering parts tomorrow nice stuff to know.

I'd suggest a tried & true eddie 1406 600 elec choke (I'm assuming you have a 318 or a 360).

For the wires someone suggested Belden, but they list for 129.00 at NAPA, so what is a decent (not balls to the wall race car) performance set to buy?

Although I do like the Firecore wires, they are probably out of your budget. A decent price performance wire I have had good luck with in the past are Taylor spiro cores.
Accel has some decent wires too,but the cheap yellow Accel wires don't last long.

I have and still do run Taylors on everything. The ones on my 440 are probally 15 years old and still doing fine.At the shop we used Autolite wires for most street cars.Cap and rotor Belden is good as is the better cap and rotor that Advanced sells.Stay away from the cheap wires that AutoZone sells.Coils we run MSD Blasters.Same thing mine is 15 years old and still working great. Its a street driver not a race car.I doubt spending tons of $$$ he will even notice the difference between good quality parts and race type stuff.Rocky

Thanks guys, yeah I'm not expecting the thing to have a ton of power when I'm done, I would rather buy A/M stuff now, so that when I can manage the 4bbl swap I don't have to upgrade as much of the little stuff. Is it worth getting a high volume water pump? Rockauto lists a few, and they sell for significantly less than I've seen on ebay, and Summit.

alrighty Joe, I need upper/lower rad hoses, and I'd like the Echlin Cap and Rotor as RapidRobert mentioned above... Shipped 02330, let me know I will be ordering parts tonight or tomorrow night.
