I have a Pro Comp 440 billet distributor like this one:

http://www.competitionracingsupply.com/i...27_procomp.html

It has 3 wires coming out. A red one, a black one and an orange one.

I am gonna wire it using an MSD 6AL ignition.

How should I wire the distributor??? Should I wire it like the schematics that MSD suggests for a Mallory UNilite or 9000 series? Red wire on the dist goes to ignition key, white wire out of the MSD to the orange wire on the distributor, and black wire coming out of the distributor to ground???

You can't use that one with an MSD ignition - it already has the ignition module built in - wire it just like the diagram. Pro-comp does make one with just the pick-up for MSD type ignitions (2-wire) - but based on my experience they are junk

Since you are going to use a out side box I would not run it using those wires. use only the two wires that go to the pickup that way you are bypassing using two ignition boxes. Then you are using the dist. for just the pick up.Or just use the the ignition that is built in it and not the msd. Oh by the way the wires are red 12switched black ground and orange tach lead.

RED - is positive 12v switched/key battery feed and (+) side of coil

BLACK - goes to chassis ground (-)

ORANGE - Negative (-) side of coil

If you use it this way you cant use the MSD....
that dist has its own amplifier in it.... but you
could do like Jake said... just use the pick up portion
of it then use the MSD...... you really did buy the
wrong dist to use with the MSD

you will have to take it apart - and see if you can grab the two wires from the pick-up - not sure if you can - those things are real cheesy on the inside - post a pic if you can

If the diameter is right I would look at putting in
a stock Mopar dist pick up and plate... might need to
machine the housing on a lathe

I was checking the MSD 6al diagrams and it says that you can hook up a ready to run dist to an MSD, and looks like it is just like the diagram I posted basically...

However there is a "NOTE" that says that the ignition modulke of the distributor will still trigger the MSD.

So it can be done, the question now is: is there a downside to that????

Wire it up that way and see... it might just give the
MSD a real strong signal (from the dist amplifier)

i called the tech line at summit and asked them, and they say that you can hook the ready to run dist to the msd. and that there is absolutely no downside to it.

Now, the thing isthat im actually hooking a PRO CRAP distributor to the msd, so who knows????

:S

DANG I DONT KNOW WHAT i WAS THINKING WHEN i BOUGHT THAT DIST LIKE 6 YEARS AGO OR MORE....

Don't want to be the carrier of bad news...
But that ProComp distributor is low quality and poor reliability... Suggest you upgrade to a Mopar, MSD or Mallory..

Just my $0.02..
