Is there a factory cast iron intake manifold for a 440 that is more desirable than others? Let's say if you were running in a truck pulling class that essentially allows unlimited cubic inch, but limits you to cast iron manifolds. All I have right now are truck manifolds to work with (port). Just wondering if there is a more desirable OEM single 4BBL cast iron intake to be looking for. Thank you.

the 70-71 6bbl would make the most power but I assume your talking single 4's. What I dont know is why the baddest man in downtown TerreHaute with a rotary pump is talkin bout gas engines?
I've turned a corner! It's a whole new world for me with gas engines. I'm very confident with a 1st gen Cummins and rotary pumps, but clueless when it comes to gas engines .
So I need to start looking for a 72 T-Q intake? Is that a Thermo Quad? I plan to run a Holley carb if that matters .

I think the biggest advantage of the thermoquad intake is the larger plenum. I think other than that they all would be pretty close.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Yep: I assume the adapter is legal to run a squarebore Holley?

Yes. They are weird rules. From what I understand, it's essentially unlimited cubic inch, OEM appearing, engine must have come in a 1 ton or smaller pickup, 35" dot tires, and cast iron heads, and manifolds.

When Bill aquires this intake, should he machine out the center part and make it a "single plane" manifold, or just port and smooth out the internals.
Yes, he is just allowed a 4 barrel intake, or else we would be six packing it.
Anything else you want me to disclose about this build via the internet? Or do you want to keep it top secret, Bill?

Think plenum volume though.

Yes but I cringe at the idea of necking those big holley primaries down to the itty bitty thermoquad primary size.

A few years back an aluminum intake painted blue to match the rest of the engine worked fine for me.Believe me unless there is a Mopar tech or another Mopar racer in your class no one will ever notice.
