I know there are some other speed-type businesses in the NoVa / DC / Maryland region, but these are the only ones I've frequented on any regular basis and can really talk about: Big Ed's Speed Shop (Alexandria, VA) - Gone since late '70s or early '80s; was the first SERIOUS speed shop I'd ever gone too and was a big player in the area until the owner closed it down IIRC Calhoun's Speed Shop (Alexandria, VA) - Gone for about 10 years now High Performance Hardware (Arlington, VA) - Gone since 2008, IIRC; never impressed me as really knowing WTF they were doing so I'm not surprised they shut down C&C Automotive (Manassas, VA) - Still around, but caters to high-end Ford Hemi stuff mostly and hasn't impressed me w/ their idea of customer service, either Speed Unlimited (Morningside, MD) - Still around, but doesn't consider Mopar-specific stuff worth stocking and they're far enough away from me now that I only go there for something I need "now" and they have on the shelf

We still have "Md Performance" here in Md in Balt county. His prices are about the same as Jegs and Summits when you add their shipping in and we get very good service from them. I buy most of my parts from Md Performance. Ron

We used to call them "Speed Outrageous"... they would often have what I needed but at very high prices compared to the others...
What about AA/Speed in Woodbridge VA? Are the Marrow brothers still around? 
Back in the 80's I spent a lot of Saturday mornings (and money) there, because their Sat. counter guy (Tom Kelleher) was a knowledgeable Mopar freak and had a garage twice the size of his house, both of which were stuffed with Mopar goodies

when i was in college (living in santa barbara, cali) there was a shop called "the speed shoppe". i got EVERYTHING from that guy. good times. every once in a while we'd head down to supershops van nuys, and check out o.c.i.r. while we were down there.
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I probally have at least one foot gas pedal in the garage.Probally have the one that fits the dimmer switch also.Pulled the one from my 65 at least 10 years ago.One came from my kids Charger.Rocky

We still have one here in the Morris County area of North Jersey, Bruce Speed Shop in Rockaway he used to be real close to me when he was in Parsippany but he moved to Rockaway quite a few years ago. He does quite well and stocks a lot of parts, his showroom is packed. He specializes in roundy round stuff and also races one but can get anything. He also has a chassis dyno. I buy some stuff from him mainly because he has a lot of things in stock, like gaskets, fittings, additives,exhaust pieces etc. and its somewhat convenient. Anybody remember CA Speed in Fairfield ?( later Van Iderstines) Van Iderstines had a few stores at one time as did PCA ( Performance Centers of America) as well as Mothers had two stores.

Hey guys,I work at a smaller speed shop here in Lancaster,Ca.called R&E Racing,it opened in 1972,the last year or two has gotten tougher,between the bigger mail order houses,{Summit/Jegs} and having to charge sales tax if we sell parts to someone in California,{and they don't since they're out of state}hard to stay competitive.,our local dragstrip closing didn't help either.
We have had to trim our inventory down because if it's not selling fairly quick,can't afford to sit on dead inventory,bigger ticket stuff especially,of course we order parts in,or dropship them,{have no problem with either of course,},and me being a Mopar guy myself,I won't give you that deer in headlights look,lol.
My boss is wanting to retire,been 40 years in the business,and is looking to sell the business,,so yes,may be looking for a job like millions of others,,,may be one more speed shop closing,after California having dozens of them 10 years ago.
It does suck that they're going down,,being able to walk into one,grab carb parts,AN fittings,gaskets,cam kits,engine stuff etc,etc..a place to hang out/meet new friends/get advice etc.,,hard to do some of that over the phone...but time marches on right.

I grew up in Philly and worked for Bash speed shop.I still remember K & G speed shop across the street from Burhlholme park that had the "massage  " parlor(lol)on the second floor, long time ago. Shaws, B.P., Dunn & Grasso and Precision Performance were some others I remember. I think Ben Pilla on Frankford ave. is the only one left that I know of.

There were a bunch in " the day " in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. MAS was the biggest. Now ???? Nothing close to me. And I would spend there quite a bit with the misguided notion that I was keeping them open so when I needed that odd ball AN fitting or hunk of braided stainless on a Saturday afternoon , I could get it. Too bad it didn't work out for them , because I loved the convenience. At their peak , MAS had a blown Ford cammer on the floor along with a ton of other shiny stuff , and they made their own fiberglass too. I went there on my bicycle as a ten year old for stickers and have no idea how much folding money I sent across the counter over the years , but it was more than a couple bucks.
