I have been running Felpro 1009's since I built this 496. Just tore the heads off to replace valve springs and check things over. The firing ring is real close to the chamber on the Eddy Performer heads, but have been sealing good. Question is...I have a set of 8519 PT1 Felpro's in my gasket kit. They seem to have a slightly larger bore than the 1009's, and are about .044" thick uncompressed. The 1009's have compressed down to about .037". Will these be OK to sub for the 1009's and still keep my quench the same? At 75.00 a piece for 1009's, I realy don't want to fork out a bunch of money if the 8519's will work.

Just my opinion, but I would invest in a set of Cometics. Worth every penny they cost to me.

I recommend Cometic head gaskets. The 8519 gaskets will damage the head and then you'll have to pay to surface the heads. Even the 1009 gaskets usually damage the cylinder heads enough to require a skim cut.
Yep been there done this.

Yeh..I defintely have the fire ring impressions on my heads. I've had them off a couple of times and just installed new 1009's and never had a leak (that I know of) ...maybe just lucky. I guess one would have to order direct from Cometic?? Or are there any dealers for them (Pac Northwest area)?

My 440 with Stealths I run the FP marine gaskets.Been on 4 years street/strip.I run 12.5 domes. The 1009s were close to the chamber. The Marines compress to about .039.Think they were like 40 bucks each.Rocky

Am I going to run into trouble down the road? It is just a street cruiser! Thanks Mike

"Same here but I don`t like the waisted space around the bore but it`s worked for years..." So thumper are you running the 1009"s that have not been a problem for years? Mike p.s. You sure are spending a lot of time on here for a Saturday. You should be working on the car or getting your "Honey DO" list done!
