Just wondering if if this rare little setup is being reproduced by anyone? It's the rear U-joint grease cap retainer clips used on the assemly line. I'm assuming it was to keep the caps in place before and during drive shaft installation at the plant. I removed this from a 22,000 mile Lynch Road assembled 1971 Charger. Thanks for any help.

My thoughts are if this is an item that our cars came with from the factory, it might be a pretty simple little detail item for me to reproduce (or to have someone reproduce). I should have taken a couple of photos of this strap still installed on the rear U-Joint just for reference but it's pretty obvious how it's installed. I'll have to do more research to find out if it was installed on all cars.

I've made a few of them...
two different styles of end fold seem to have been used or maybe bent differently on some.

The strip part is easily made.. those special cap rings are the part that I've not been able to find.

I agree and now looking at it... now I don't think it's gonna be too easy to make those unique cap clips like you said. They appear to be flat spring steel. Probably be pointless to have a machinist try to duplicate them because it's likely they'll break installing them onto the caps. Hmm... any ideas? I know this is a super small detail item that you really..and I mean really, gotta look to find, but it would be cool to have them available to put back on our cars if going that far on a restoration. As for now, I can't even say for certain that all cars had them.

They can be laser cut from spring steel.

A better method may be water jet cutting, as this won't create a heat zone.

Saw this post earlier, and I was just out under my Ram and noticed it had these on at least the u-joints on the front axle.

I'd think there's a supplier somewhere that has the clips.
I've simply detailed originals for the few I've done.

Laser or jet cutting them wouldn't give the correct edge appearance. I know that sounds nit-picky, but this is a small detail item that someone who's that particular about a piece this small will care about.
I think that last sentence made sense..

You could always sand the exposed, kerf cut edges, then tumble the parts.

I don't think a small detail item like this made on a punch press, then hardened would be cost effective. The super-picky guys usually want the real thing, regardless of how accurate the repro is.
