a 295 on the 10" rim i have won't fit under my car, but i'm thinking an 8" rim won't balloon the sidewalls out as much, and it may fit.

Most manufacturers recommend rim width that is +/- 1" over the tread face. A 295 has a 9.5" tread face, so 8" is slightly under the desireable range. It does create more sidewall bulge and you may have to run pressure under 30# to get full tread contact. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.

Who makes a 295-60? (15"?) I've been considering 295-50-15 recently (see thread with pics)... but the buldge on an 8" rim is nor desirable... good looks maybe, but 8.5, 9, 9.5 or better yet the 10" rim is best... just a matter of getting the proper backspacing to fit under the wheelwell and then not hitting the springs.... maybe willing to flush the fender lips?

I think I'm going to stay with the 275-60-15 rears on my existing 8" rims for the street/hwy, and get 255-60-15 fronts (OK, OK... I know the BFG T/As are not hi-perf tires... but then I do have other 16x10 rims for competition tires to be used at the weekend autocrosses and hi-speed lapping road course events.)

Mopar Mitch "Road racers and autocrossers go in deeper and come out harder!"... and rain never stops us from having fun with our cars... in fact, it makes us better drivers! Check out MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE, August 2006 issue for feature article and specs on my autocross T/A!

I have had these 295's on my 8" wide rallyes for over ten years & probably 25000 miles with no issues.

Here's a pic of a 295/65/15 Drag Radial on a 15x8 Weld Prostar. I also have another set of the same size drag radials on a 15x10 Prostar and the section width is wider.

The 15x8 is pictured below

Mick I was running 295/50/15 on a 8" rim for the last 5 yrs. The bulge is noticeable. I just switched to 10" and it is better. This pic is with 8" rim. But I am using SS Springs.

but is the bulge just noticeable, or doesn't look good?

i just want that extra 1" of tire under the car, and i know i can't do it on 10" rims...

I tried to do that and they wouldn't mount anything over 255 on my 8" rim. They said their insurance said it was a no no and they told me I would have to get a wider rim. Since I had already dropped the change for the rims...I wasn't about to go looking for wider ones. I did like the look of my 305/60/15s but those were widened 15x10 Police Rims on the rear of my 70 Charger...but c'est la vie

wow, that's great! i don't think that looks bad at all. a 10" rim may be better, but i was expecting worse.

i'm going to give this a shot. thanks everyone!
