I just received a quarter panel skin for a 70 challenger from a local distributor. The quality of this skin seems very poor. The body line on the side is not even straight. Are all quarter skins like this or are ther better ones out there? Who makes good quality patch panels?

Thanks for the info. The quarter i am changing is the passenger side. I agree that it would work out better if used below the body line, but too late, it is allready cut about two inches from the top. I will be block sanding for days to get it straight. I don't remember them being this bad before. I also saw one changed before were they cut it a couple inches behind the door and a couple of inches in front of the rear bumper, and a couple inches below the body line. then it was flanged on all three sides. This way all the factory edges are kept, making it easier to finish. I wish I would have done this.

I know of 2 challenger going back into the shop this winter to have the fuel filler area replaced.
The marker light areas are stamp badly too.

That is why i cut it so high to start, but I have read in Moparts, that the Goodmark did not fit very well, especially the passenger side which is the one that I need. I just looked at a used original a friend has and it looks real nice.

Here is an example of the problem fuel door area. This is a car we took on after body and paint had been done elsewhere. The flip-top base would not even fit into the hole on the reproduction 1/4 another shop had installed. The mounting flange area was too small and the outer edge was beveled on the reproduction. It should be more like a 90 degree turn in.
I cut a section from an original and grafted it in.
Another give-away of a reproduction 1/4 (besides the wheel opening) is the horizontal body line. On the originals it very slightly curves downwards and then up towards the door. The reproductions I've seen are a straight diagonal line with no curvature.

I ran into the exact same problem 5 yrs. ago on my Challenger resto. I bought the 1/4's from Sherman, and discovered the problem after the bodywork & paint was done. I was pissed, to say the least. I called Sherman, and got that age-old reply: "We've never had that problem before". Yeah, Right! I did complain loud and hard, and they refunded me 125.00 for my troubles. I did what you did, got a fuel filler opening from an original 1/4, cut the mis-shaped section out, & placed the orig. opening in from behind. Not exactly factory correct, but no one has noticed, and it saved another trip back to paint jail, and more expense. A little re-engineering, and problem solved.
Still in all, what an inexcusable problem on a POS repro part....

I did mine below the line and kept the original side markers... its pretty clear like the pic above about the flaws in them. Only bad part is if you need an outer wheel house also, not much room to get to with the top half the quarter still on. So I just repair the edges on mine over replacing them when I already had new ones for the car.

I give up, You are right, I have been trying to fit the skin for a few days now and it just does not fit at all. I decided to with the factory style quarter. I don't want to be stuck with a POS again. What quartet is recommended. The AMD or the Goodmark?, or is there some other. Thanks, Mark

i installed the skins on my car back in 2002. not sure which ones to use now. does anyone have any sugestions??? and yes Mark, the drivers side IS JUNK. after mine was installed, we had to rework it to make it look OK. here is a shot of my drivers side. Greg
