What is the correct procedure to remove the steering column in a '54 Dodge 1/2 ton??
Does the box AND column all come out the bottom in one piece?? Or can the column and shaft be separated at the top of the box where the clamp is??
I need to do this to lift the cab off to do the floor pans.

The steering column shaft is part of the steering box. The clamp on the bottom will only allow the column housing to be be removed once the clamp at the bottom of the dash is removed, and the steering wheel and top bearing are removed. The steering shaft is hollow, be very careful not to bend it or its junk.

You either have to remove the steering box. or you have to lift the cab over the column. I checked my 54 Dodge truck service manual to be sure I wasn't leading you astray. Sorry. Gene

Kinda what I figured.....my service manual doesn't really get into any detail on the removal.I guess just remove the gear lever, steering wheel, and turn signal lever and should be good to go.
Kind of a dumb setup if you ask me....and I've played with Mopars for 50 years.....I'll leave it at that!
