Well I just got home from the drag strip. The truck motor had it's first drag strip outting. I only ran it to the 1/8 mile mark as it developes a rather severe vibration in the chassis around 95-100mph. I have some chassis tuning to do and need to have the convertor tightened up quite a bit. It's stalling at the hp peak,(5900) rather than the torque peak, (4800).
All in all it was a successful first outting, it ran a 6.53 in the 1/8. The truck picked the front wheels up 6-8" on launch but then wanted to go to the left out of the groove and would spin a bit until I was able to wrestle it back into the goove. I believe there is a few tenths left I can knock off once I get everything straightened out. Dave

Ron; It's more like a barn door, 38.5 square feet of area. Mike; I built a 4-link from scratch a couple years ago. I'm sure it just needs some adjusting. The vibration I think is pinion angle under load.
All in all it ran fairly well for an untested (at the strip) chassis setup. 3860lbs. Dave

Checked the pinion angle today and found it was 3 degrees positive, I adjusted it to 1-1/2 degrees negative. Drove the truck and it ran much better. I've got to sit down and watch Billy Shope's 'Just Suspensions' again and then adjust the 4-link. Dave

Dave, are you saying negative pinion angle is down or up in relation to the driveshaft intersection at the pinion shaft?

Dave, I hope you have a good aftermarket and well balanced driveshaft under there. That kind of power and those kinds of speeds demand a quality d-shaft.

Dave; I had a custom shaft made up for it when the 528 went in. After adjusting the pinion angle the vibration has gone away.Dave
