Was the stainless steel trim used on the rear of a '68 Charger chrome plated?

I concerned mainly with the vinyl top belt mouldings which butts to the pot-metal "check" trim

...and the longer stainless trim mouldings for the trunk lid and the lower tail lamp panel.

I recall years ago buffing mine and I swore I broke-through a layer which appeared to be a plating of sorts.

Thanks,

John

the vinyl top side moldings are SS and can be polished.

The trunk molding has an anodized coating on it as well as the 68 tail lamp moldings (dont quote me on the tail lamp moldings though)
