Will this work? Anyone have any experience with this? I've been searching and searching and can't find much. I did find someone on another board who posted some pictures where they had to dimple the headers in a couple places for spark plug access?

I've got the Hooker 1 and 7/8 inch headers, can't remember the part number but I can get it I that helps.

Thanks for any info!

You don't mention your combination (B/RB/LA). I went to Performer RPM's 8 years ago on my stroker B engine. To my surprise, my Hooker Headers were tight as far as spark plug clearance. I believe that the #1 cylinder was the biggest problem. The earlier design hookers were designed for heads with straight out spark plug orientation. The RPM's have angled plugs. I had to make a little jig for my press and dimple a few of the tubes. As I mentioned, the #1 cylinder was the biggest problem because the header tube exits the exhaust port at the same angle as the spark plug end. So the spark plug insulator and plug wire tip ran parallel (underneith) with the header tube. That required a bigger dimple to create clearance for the plug wire connector end. I wasn't about to beat my nice polished ceramic coated Hooker header with a ball pean hammer so I made a tube holder out of wood (oak) and a little metal thick wall tube welded to a tube that slid over the tip of my press. I pressed a dimple into the header tube and then test fit and then pressed some more until I had enough clearance to get the plug wire onto the spark plug tip with a decent air gap. I believe that somewhere around 2004, Hooker redesigned their B/RB headers so that they would fit with angled and straight spark plug orientation.

The other issue I ran into was that the exhaust header flange hit the tops of the ARP cylinder head stud kit. I had to trim the nice allen head end of the stud down so it would clear.

I found a picture in my archive ... you can see that the plugs are in the odd numbered cylinder head and the #1 plug wire is attached. I'm pretty sure I took this picture right around the time I was trial fitting the headers to my new Eddy RPM cylinder heads.

Just curious, are you guys talking about Competition or Super Competition series Hookers? Or both?

Friend of mine runs 1 7/8" Hooker headers on his 440 with Edelbrock RPM heads and he had no clearance problems. Thing is, they don't look like the headers in the picture above. No.1 tube runs across the top of the other three tubes on that side.

I was fitting a set of Super Comps ... I believe the part# is 5209. I just looked them up on the Holley Website: http://www.holley.com/5209-1HKR.asp
The picture shows the tubes running the same basic way as the tubes on my year = 2002 headers. My tubes are 2" X 32" and the collector is 3-1/2" diameter. The original post mentioned 3" collectors so we're not talking about the same part#. I seem to remember a footnote on these headers mentioning angled plugs. I looked up part# 5209 and saw footnotes #4 and #200 ... #200 talks about fit issues with B1 heads and angled spark plugs. I thought they did a redesign for angled plugs but I guess not. But ... I also saw another footnote (#205) mentioning Accel shorty plugs. I planned to run NGK plugs ... I'll have to take a look at the shorty plugs ... a short plug would be a big help with my #1 cylinder.

Unless you have them already or are getting them for a great deal, I would go with the TTI's...The fit and quality is better, IMO.

Get the part number and list what year car and body style That way someone with a similar car and same header part number may be able to respond halfway intelligently

5903 1-7/8 Hookers fit after you gently tap two of the tubes. Car is a '67 B-Body with an RB.

I run a set of #5903 Hooker Comps in my 66 Coronet w/a 440 & Eddy RPMS. I dinged the underside of cyl # 2 for 90 deg plug wire clearance, and both sides to get a little room past the torsion bars. They've been on the motor for 10 years w/ no problems. I overdid it a little, it's not as bad as it looks......First time dinging a set of tubes.

#2 You can see the 1st contact w/ the torsion bar, and I overdid it a little.

Sorry everyone I've been out of town. The Hooker headers I have are the part number 5903 Hooker Competition headers that are 1 and 7/8" and made to fit both B and E bodies. The car is a 1967 Satellite with a 440 and 727. $600 TTI headers are out of my budget right now.
