I am looking for a fan and fan clutch for my 70 Charger R/T 440. Can someone help me with a part number or source? It can be a reproduction or aftemarket supplier.

thanks!

A/C? Axle package? Broadcast sheet? 22" vs. 26" Are you looking for the factory "stock" set-up or something that works?

A 70 Charger 440 4 speed would not have a fan clutch. This set-up uses a fixed 7 blade fan (2863224) with a spacer.

If you want to go with a clutch fan setup, Mopar Performance has one. Part# is P4120758. It should be available from your local dealer as well as online suppliers. Here is link to one from Summit.

If this is the same one advertised by Mancini, they told me today that it is not for this application, but for 73 or later B-bodies.

WOW!

1970 b-body (probably the same for '70 e-body, but I didn't check )
440 4-spd:
***** 4bbl & 6bbl w/3.54s (A33) =
2998956 26" radiator + 2863216 7-bade 18-1/2" dia. fan + 2806070 torque drive clutch fan + 2998326 fan shroud (the big $$ same as max cooling/HEMI parts)

***** 4bbl & 6bbl w/4.10s (A34) =
2998956 26" radiator + 2863216 7-bade 18-1/2" dia. fan + 2806070 torque drive clutch fan + 2998326 fan shroud (the big $$ same as max cooling/HEMI parts)

440 auto:
----- 4bbl w/3.23s & A/C =
2998961 26" radiator + 2863216 7-bade 18-1/2" dia. fan + 2658456 thermal clutch fan + 2998326 fan shroud

***** 4bbl & 6bbl w/3.23s & non-A/C = 2998960 22" radiator + 2863224 7-bade 18" dia. fan + 1851959 1.06" spacer + 2998328 fan shroud

----- 4bbl w/3.55s & A/C (A36) =
??

***** 4bbl & 6bbl w/3.55s & non-A/C (A36) =
2998956 26" radiator + 2863216 7-bade 18-1/2" dia. fan + 2806070 torque drive clutch fan + 2998326 fan shroud (the big $$ same as max cooling/HEMI parts)

***** 4bbl & 6bbl w/4.10s (A32) =
2998956 26" radiator + 2863216 7-bade 18-1/2" dia. fan + 2806070 torque drive clutch fan + 2998326 fan shroud (the big $$ same as max cooling/HEMI parts)

Some Superbirds are an exception to the above numbers, during production of the Superbirds they changed from the 216/070 to fixed fans on some engine/trans combos to aid airflow/cooling due to the small grill opening.

I put the Mopar performance viscous clutch fan package on the '69 Coronet. The clutch on this has a thermostat control (my old Mopar Performance one did not have the thermostatically controlled clutch?)

The Mopar Performance 4120756 kit consists of:
4140063 5-blade 18" dia. fan
4095704 thermal fan clutch

the 4095704 fan clutch is 3-3/16" tall VS. 3462112 ('71 version of the "070") fan clutch is 3" tall
the 4140063 5-blade 18" dia. fan VS. 2863216 7-blade 18-1/2" dia. fan

The '70 b-body is tight in front of the water pump, I'm not sure if that 3/16" will hit the radiator?

That's the correct number fan, but a 2-1/4" spacer would put it thru the radiator.

The 2-1/4" reference in GG's "white book" is for PITCH, basically the twist or depth of the fan blades.

I would like some more 70 B body 440 4 speed owners to chime in on this topic. My 70 GTX 440 4 speed with A33 axle package does not have the torque drive fan listed on the build sheet. It has N51 maximum cooling noted but does not have N65 Torque drive fan on the sheet. I am under the impression that all 70 440 4 speed cars came with a fixed cooling fan versus the fan clutch. I look forward to hearing more on this topic.

I stand corrected ......216 fan and 070 clutch it is. Here is a snap shot of the codes on my 70 GTX 440 4 speed with A33 axle:

Every 1970 U-code 4-spd B&E-body I have owned came with the 070 clutch.

Now that I have the right numbers, where do i get a reproduction or aftermarket one that will work. I have a used one (PN 2863216 7-blade), but is pitted and bent and i am afraid to get one from ebay that isn't like mine but with a fresh coat of paint).

Thanks for the great information.

That is the first I have heard of the 73 or later thing. Over the past few years I have used it myself as well as seen it used on several big block 68-70 B bodies.

Here is the description from the Mopar Performance catalog.

EDIT: I posted this before I saw your post above. If you are looking for the original style/size fan then this kit is not what you want.

EDIT (again): 6bblgt may be right about a clearance problem on a 70. I just noticed that the MP fan blade has a larger pitch than the original as well as the longer clutch unit.

It doesn't have to be an origanal one, just has to fit and work like an orginal one. I am open to any suggestions, other vendors besides Hayden, and except electric fans.

While on the subject, any thoughts on using a flex fan?
