Why no RTV between gasket and head? I've done that since 1997 with 0 leaks...
Could be....I just don't find it much fun having to clean off all that snot off the head and gasket everytime I set the valves or just pull the covers to take a look-see. Permanent seal maybe....but NOT for periodic removal. If your covers are half decently true on the surface, you shouldn't need sealer anyways. The factory didn't.

I used RTV to glue the gasket to my stock cover then put a small amount of grease on the other side of the gasket. Stock covers and aluminum heads, no leaks and the covers come off easy. I used a red bearing grease.
Sorta what I was getting at.
