If my stock 68 Hemi sits for longer than a week, its very hard to start. Lots of cranking and pumping to, I think, refill the float bowls. Is this due to the garbage ethanol enriched fuel we are getting at the pumps these days?? Does this gas evaporate that fast? If I start the car every 4 or 5 days , its fine. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem with pump gas? If so, any solutions??
thanks

I have the same problem even with c12 racing fuel. I have no idea what it is, and am tired of chasing my tail. I just spray a little gas in the carbs and it starts right up,no big deal

Its a very common problem so more than likely the answer is yes, it's todays fuel. Fix? Electric fuel pump will usually reduce the start up time to a minimum. Not the best choice if trying to keep everything 100% stock but it works.

It's today's fuels. You didn't have this problem twenty years ago. I take the air cleaner off and use a small bottle of fuel to pour a bit into the carb vent tubes. I don't want the non-stock look of an electric fuel pump.

same here. if it's been about a week, it fires right up in the first few cranks. anything after that and it almost fires and stumbles out, and then takes a lot of cranking.

so, like everyone else, i just pour a little fuel down each carb and go.

That isn't a problem specific to Hemis, pretty much anything with a carburetor and a mechanical fuel pump these days has similar issues. It's especially common with winter grade fuel in the spring/summer. If my D100 sits for more than a week I dump a tiny bit of gas down the carb throat, it's usually enough for it to stay running until the float bowl fills up.

same problem here - one way to check is to pull the air cleaner and check for a pump shot before cranking.

I am installing a small primer pump this weekend.

Thanks for your help guys. I wouldn`t mind the addition of an electric pump as long as I could hide it out of sight and its not too loud. some of them are really noisy.

it will definitely be out of sight because you have to install it back at the fuel tank pickup point , above the axle is the best place , try to get one that doesn't need a regulator.

If you suspect the fuel, spike it with some 'real' gasoline...

First one has to find REAL gasoline .
