I have a 1985 ramcharger with a 318 and my fuel pump is spitting out of the top, it not any sort of connection point i.e. leading to the engine or fuel filter or anything its just coming out of this raised bar on top with two ends, one end is not spitting but the other is? the side thats not spitting is covered in grime, but I couldn't find a nut or screw or something that would be on the good side and not on the bad side to cause this? I've never had a fuel pump issue before so it's kind of aggrevating.

Is this a mechanical pump on the engine? If so, it sounds like the rubber diaphram has failed and I'm afraid it will only get worse. If its electric its still probably going to have to be replaced if its not leaking for a fitting

Replace the pump.
Sounds like the diaphragm is ruptured. If so, it may be dumping fuel into the crank case also. Check your oil.

"Spitting fuel" in any amount is dangerous enough, but if this is a mechanical pump, it will inject fuel into the crankcase

IN MY LIFE --and I'm and old fart-- I've seen two engines with leaking fuel pumps suffer crankcase explosions. One on a 57 Chev blew off the oil filler cap hard enough to dent the hood, and blew off a valve cover. Another, a ford, pretty much ruined the oil pan!!!!!

If this is a mechanical pump, there is no question in my mind: An oil AND filter change are a lot cheaper than a wiped out crank
