A few weeks ago my 63 Sport Fury cut out while making a turn. It started back up but ran like it lost fuell pressure. No big deal as I wanted to upgrade the small Holley red pump I had on it anyway. So I installed the very good Firecore pump and reg that Rick gave me such good service on. It drove and pulled awesome but the other day I went about 7 miles to my X-wifes house to see her. When I came out to leave about an 1/2 hr later it started right up but died when I put it in gear. I got it started after putting the throttle on the floor like it was flooding. Well it drove great all the way home. When I started it in my driveway at home it did it again so I got my son to help me pull the glass hood and sure enough it was dumping fuel out the bowl vents. Again it stopped and then ran fine the rest of the day. The fuel filters are not that old and were very clean when I popped it off. As you all know I run pump gas so I am thinking this not so great pump gas is messing with the rubber needle seats in my 850 DP since it only does it sometimes and then all of the sudden runs good. The fuel pressure is set at 6.5 lbs. I picked up the .120 metal needle and seats today and plan to put them in the carb and hope that fixes it. When I jetted the carb about a month ago it was very clean in both bowls. Anyone else have any problems like this ? Just curious as I will change the needle and seats today or tomorrow but figure if anyone else has had a simular problem I am always willing to listen. Thanks , Ron

Ron, I had a very similar situation with my car two summers ago. It would start and run fine most of the time. Every once in a while it would not start and I would have fuel pouring out the vents. I have a Mallory 140 and at that time a holley regulator. It ended up being debri in the regulator that every now and then would allow the regulator to stick open and cause the full pressure of the fuel pump to push past the needles of the carb. This may be the same situation or maybe not, but it does sound very similar to mine.

i just had the same problem this past sunday. car just died. had to floor it to fire up. took air cleaner off, driving down the road it started screwing up, saw gas mist on windshield & gas pouring from the vents. bowels were clean. i'm changing my magna fuel reg.it's 9 yrs old. didn't take it off yet. i'll let u know what i find. prosystem told me to isolate the reg with rubber to keep vibration down.

fwiw, dont use the metal seats for the street, rubber are more forgiving and will seal better

Get the Viton rubber N/S for the street.... Viton
isnt affected by any of the fuels

When fuel delivery goes bad, it could be:
Some trash in the system that's migrating through it.
Rubber inside a braided or rubber-ish hose has become a "flap" that cuts fuel supply.
Sticking float or bent/binding hinge tab.
Dirt in an air bleed, needle/seat, or jet.
Something closing off the pickup like a rag in the tank (DAMHIK).
With 1/2 fuel line, I've noticed that a stock mech pump alone won't keep it pressurized adequately.
Tank not venting.

I know some of these won't be creating your problem, just listing them from experience.

well, took magna fuel reg apart. no debris in it. new one should be here tomorrow. mr.p, bought new prosystems domi last summer. i imagine they use good seats. looked at them with a magnifying glass, looked brand new.

i tried the steel N/S combo a little while back.Do not use them unless you drop your pressure way down - like to 3 psi.otherwise they will flood regularly.i went back to stock viton no more flooding.I think they are are designed for alchohol - high volume low pressure

I'll bet you have a litle speck of junk holding the needle and seat open.....even a tiny speck can do it.

Where is your filter Ron? I have had similar problems out here with non Ethanol pump swill in my Dominators with .120 viton needles and seats I use a 80 micron filter between the tank and the pump and a 10 micron filter between the pump and the regulator. I did end up dropping the pressure to 5.5 lbs. after replacing the .110 viton needles per Monte Smith suggestions on here several years ago, the larger needles have more area needing more pressure to close them and they flow more fuel at the lower pressures Why not try that

Mine was acting up sort of the same a few weeks ago, first fire up of the season, ran terrible, same kind of symptoms....found a tiny piece of translucent plastic stuck in the needle and seat. Blew it out, and it was perfect after that.

This might sound silly but make sure the oil hasn't got contaminated with all that fuel.
