My ole ladies 2005 Sebring,2.7 w/57,000 miles started running rough today so I went to check it out when she got off work,I open the hood while she starts it, runs pretty rough sounds like there is a vacuum leak in the center of the intake area,I follow her home for 10 miles and its blue smoking pretty bad.It did pop the engine light and has always ran great with no problems.

It was running for about 20 minutes total but then it sat for about 10 minutes when I went out to start it and look it over again and it runs perfect with no smoke or roughness.Do these get the intake sucking oil syndrome?Thanx

Mitch

These are historically horrible engines, and there is PLENTY on the web about them and their short-comings.

Look for any cracked vaccum lines and try and spray some carb cleaner around the intake and see if it changes

97K on our 04 and zero problems with the engine. Just put on an outer tie rod and the windshield washer pump is intermittent, but has been a real good car!

The lower intake is plastic and has formed orings on the top and bottom. The intake does not seal a lifter valley like a big or small block, fact is there is no oil near upper or lower intake.Vacumn leak is possible but smokeing/oil problem is something else. I just put a 2001 intrepid with 2.7 back together. crank was bad 2 con rods bad new water pump, chains ,tensoiner and piston rings and she runs great. the motor was sludged up the worst i have ever seen. funny thing, it ran great with only flickering oil light at hot idle. its as much an experiment to see how long it will last. it does get fantastic milage and the Intrepis is a really nice car.

The pcv valve most likely needs changed.

I've been working on a bunch lately.
If the oil doesn't get changed on schedule they will sludge quick.

The last two that I changed out were do to the shop before me doing a T chain gears & heads after the chain broke & not flushing the debris out of the oil pan.
