I have a Lunati voodoo 60302 in a stock compression 400, it's in a heavy 73 New Yorker with 2.76 gears. The motor has been in the car a couple of years now and runs pretty good for what it is but as you can imagine I could use more bottom end. When I degree'd it initially I was coming up with 109. I probably should have have fixed it then but left it at that. It has a cloyes 3 key chain and I was going to advance it 4 degrees, but some say too much advance is not good for a split pattern cam in a low comp motor? Advancing 4 degrees should put it at about 105. The cam has a 112LSA, compression is about 7.9. Will it make a noticeable difference or is it not recommended? cam specs

I would not be afraid to experiment. Do check V/P clearance

After advancing a cam 4 degrees do you still set the timing at say 34 or 36 total? I have a 340.
Thanks

you'd keep the total the same but alter the initial/curve(slots)/springs as the cam will change cyl psi & therefore the pinging point(s)

Good question but if it's 7.9 compression , those piston are about .110 in the hole .

If you installed it at 109 it's already 3* advanced from the 112 LSA. Now ,you want to advance it another 4 degerees to 7 total. Need to be careful you don't get the exh lobe way out there, it's going to be 119.
good reply. its probably the wrong cam for that combo.

They are 0.091 in the hole. With a 0.039 gasket and 90cc heads it comes out to be 7.9 or so using a calculator from what I remember.

it's already 3 degrees advance from the 112 LSA. I wouldn't go 7. if I had to go that far, I'd just get a new cam.
I would think maybe a 2 degree offset key in the cam might help, but I'm no cam expert.
