I typically use the Mr. Gasket or Robertshaw premium thermostats. All of my A/C equipped C bodies seem to like 180 degree ones. Two of the cars have factory labels under the hood requiring their use. I use a 195 in the convertible 440, 26" rad., factory shroud and hood lip seal, clutch fan. Runs at 195 to 200 all day. Do not use a 160 degree thermostat!

Bought a new "Premium" Thermostat from Napa the other day installed it and it doesn't work. Gotta love it when a new part fails. So since I'm not going to buy another one of those, what do you guys recommend that would actually work? Car is a 1968 Roadrunner 383 4-speed 22" radiator, mostly freeway driven won't be near a track.

I would run with a 190/195 stat. Will run more efficiently with better lubrication.

The temp rating on a thermostat is not the temp the motor is going to run at. It is the temp that the thermostat is wide open.
I am truckless..

It is the minimum temp that the stat will maintain the coolant temp and make the engine reach operating temp quicker. It cannot control temps if the engine wants to run above the rating. If the cooling system is efficient and clean the temp should run pretty close to the stat rating.

The Milodon thermostat as well as almost all of the so called high flow thermostats are the Robert Shaw origional factory installed thermostat from the 60/70's!

Never had a problem with Stant, however, I always test new stats BEFORE installing. Also, drill the 1/16" bleeder hole while you have it out.
Grandma always said I had "hands of gold"!
