I have a Dana 60 housing in my racecar that has the dreaded worn housing where the driver side carrier bearing sets.
Is this something that can be repaired fairly easy or is it better off just to replace the whole housing? This would be major for me since this is a narrowed 4 link housing with brackets on it.....
I see you can get an axle bore facing tool to correct this? Anyone ever do this type of repair?
Where can you buy a tool?

Mine was doing the same thing and a few guys here told me to take a .002 off of the caps so they clamp the bearing cup better I never did it and just bolted on a support cover Gus

Unless I misunderstood the explanation I was told the bearing caps are bouncing causing the shiny spots like "cap walk" on main bearing surfaces. Now I cant see why trimming the caps would stop this from happening but I would think a new set of Strange caps would be the correct repair. Gus

If you look you can see the groove where the outside of the race has worn the housing.
Here is a pic of the other side. This is how the driver side is supposed to look.
I don't know if the race spins, or the deflection from the bearing load beats up the case.
I suspect, this all starts when the carrier bearing preload is insufficient.
