i recently had the worst day of my life when my favorite car,(my dad's 72 challenger) ended up finding its way up-side-down in a corn field. the car is not at all salvagable, its a 72 440 magnum 4 speed car(obviously not original). after the insurance pay out he wants another one and he says that engine is going into the new one and it has to be a 4 speed. the engine, trans, and k frame is ok, but finding a 4 speed car for a decent price is tough. can anyone tell me what i would have to do to convert an auto to a 4 speed if i still have all the parts from the totalled challenger since finding an auto is so much easier. any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, the tunnel or "hump" should be able to be salvaged from the wrecked one, as well as the pedals. The torque boxes from the front leaf spring mounts will need to come out, as well as the ball stud bracket from the driver's framerail. If you guys will still have the wrecked one there, you'll see it as it comes apart.

Nope. You'll have to cut some welds once the carpet is out, and trace the line to be cutout on the new car's floor as well, and the torque boxes and ballstud mount will be the same deal, but overall, it's an hour or two for the three jobs.

If you are CAREFUL in your measuring, it will look facto.
The pedal assy just bolts right in in place of the big brake pedal deal.
The welded deal on the frame for the z-bar is pretty cheap as a repop.
If the new car is slap stick, better yet, if not, swap the coulumn in from the wreck.
DO NOT toss ANY PART of the carcass until the new car has been running about 6 months in case you forget anything.(Ask me how I know...)
Bummer, but good everybody's OK?

I'm 55 now, no time to waste. Not a week goes by that I don't hear about someone passing on.Let's get out there, smoke some tires, have a beer with a good friend,do what you have always wanted to do.I am pretty sure no one will ever say on their deathbed "gee I'm glad my life was calm and boring"
