Hi,

I have a 72 Road Runner that I will be putting 15 x 7 rallye wheels on. I'm looking for owners of 71s or 72s as to the maximum tire sizes they have used, tire brands and pictures would be a bonus.

What I've figured out so far is:

Front - P245-60/R15 (BFG Radial T/A) on 15 x 7 is the largest size before potential rubbing issues.

Rear - P255-60/R15 (BFG Radial T/A) on 15 x 7 is the largest size to be considered for a 7 inch wide wheel.

I have searched through past posts and I realize the rear can accomodate a larger tire but a wider rim, at least 8 inch, is part of the deal. I'm looking to stay with the 7 inch wheels though.

Also, other than BFG Radial T/As, what other brands have members used and been happy with. Cooper Cobra, Firestone Firehawk, Mastercraft Avenger, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

Here's the same car this year (some mods done).

305 45 18 rear 235 50 18 front. Springs moved in 1.5 inch each side for it to fit.

You could use, but not completely ness. 8 wheel for the 275 60's.

a 275 60 15 will work on a 7" rim,, but IMO its best on a 8" rim and fills the big wheelwell . I persomally dont care for good tires. bad results with them. Im running tres from a large NW tire chain.. Absolutely love them

I am truckless..

I tried 295/50/15's on 15x8 Mopar steelies on my 72 Satellite recently and they were just a bit too close to the quarter to work. I do remember thinking that the tire would still work inside those wheelwells with a bit less than the factory 4 1/4" backspace those wheels have. I've seen more than one 71-2 Plymouth B-body with 295/50/15's in the back. I know they fit. Stretching them onto a 7" rim will look goofy though. 275's (50 or 60's) fit decently on a 7" rim, another popular combo for the rear on those cars. Anything narrower than 275 looks too small i think.

The fronts will fit a 255 easily. I've seen 265/50/15's on the front ov a 71 Roadrunner. Looked good. I forget what the wheel was though... it was stock however. My 72 Roadrunner had 255/60/15's all around and i remember thinking they looked small, no fitment issues at all... as in, more room for bigger front and back. That car had 15x7" rallyes.

Just for kicks i put my 15x8" steelies and 295's on the front ov that Satellite... looked way mean, but rubbed slightly on the upper fender lip. Not going to work, but a 275/50 would with the right rim.

Thanks to everyone so far,

Tim, your yellow 71 looks great and has the stance I'm aiming for. Your rear wheels look wider than 7 inches. I'm thinking 8?

Larry, I agree on the BFGs and am looking into other brands.

Butterscotch71, what brand are your tires?

Pale_Roader, I agree P295-50R15 will fit as I've seen it as well but the wheels were always 8 or more wide.

Bob, your car looks good! Did you put that piece of molding on yet?

Thanks again,

Mike.

The "stock" looking RR has 8 inch in the rear, 275 60 15. I also had the springs recurved with a +1". I have caltrak on there now and put those springs to the side.
