Will a set of some kind of overload shocks hold its tail up ?

yeah, I think the springs are pretty tired, maybe it would be best to re-arch them ?

I just bought a set of those helper springs from JC Whitney for my 69 Coronet. They worked great. It has 3 settings you can choose from and I picked the middle setting. Raised the rear about 1 1/2 inches. Mine looked like yours, with the wheel well over the tires. Now you can actually see some space between the top of the tire and the wheel well.
There are 3 different "capacities" to choose. I bought the 1500 lbs. I don't plan on hauling anything so I wanted them more for looks than to increase my load-strength.

I used them also on a Newport I had.

I ordered new springs from ESPO, and they fit great~! Was a little over $200.00 delivered to my house! In my opinion, new springs are the way to go.!
